BSOD on clean W7 x64 install after CPU/SSD upgrade

    Hello,

I've been using my Shuttle SG31G2 system for about 2 years with no problems at all. Last week I decided to do a small upgrade and got an Intel Q8400 CPU and a 64GB Crucial SSD (CTFDDAC064MAG-1G1). Since the upgrade I've been getting BSOD's randomly and I'm guessing it's the SSD although I don't know for sure. I'd be very thankful if someone could guide to what may be wrong.

    Some quick info:

    - I'm running Windows 7 SP1 64-bit, clean install with all windows updates installed and Intel drivers installed + latest amd radeon drivers.

    - The BSOD's happen completely randomly without any interaction. I just have to turn the PC on and leave it on. Sometimes they come after a minute, sometimes the computer can run for 3-4 hours. Last night I watched a DVD and nothing happened. When I was going to turn the pc off and clicked the "start" button I got a BSOD.

    - I did a memory test with MemTest86 and had it run for 15 minutes without any errors.

    - Upgraded the SSD to it's latest firmware.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Especially since I don't know whether the drive is at fault or my PC..

    Thanks,
    Daniel

There might be issue with the SSD because you have an older computer and I can't find any newer BIOS there might be compatibility issues with the SSD. If the crashes started after installing the SSD then there is a high probability that it is the culprit. Try putting your old drive back in and see if the crashes continue.

Please run these tests and report back the results
    1. Memtest86 - Run for 7-8 passes - RAM - Test with Memtest86+
    2. Prime95 - Run all three tests for 3-4 hours each or until fail - https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html

I believe there are firmware updates for your SSD this could explain all your problems.
(as firmware issues tend to look like hardware failure)

Looks like it may be the case since they are up to version 7 with the firmware for that drive.

Thank you for your replies. I updated the drive to version 7 before installing Windows 7 (again) last night so I'm already running the latest firmware.
Right now I think I may try:

1.) Install 32bit version of W7 and see if it helps. (Not really sure if this will help..)
2.) Put my old HDD back and see if the problem still occurs.

    Thank you.

I installed W7 32bit and it's been running for 2 days now without any BSODs.

There must be a faulty driver in the 64bit version

Would be rare but not unheard of.
