    Hi Hyperion
First:If the speakers are not connected (with the very old style/system throw the monitor) then just unplug them and use try with other speakers, before to concern and change any other hardware.
Second: Bad or old wires?Faulty Sound card?

Try that first and please post back with ANY results for further steps.

    Use/try with other Sound Cards.
And ofcurse Dont use 2 sound cards the same time.Use/check with the onboard then disable the onboard and install the extra sound card.
You can also test UR speakers in other computer.

Please always post back with ANY results.
