BSOD when updating
Hi all, I hope you are able to help me with the following problem:
1 day after installing SP1 for Windows 7 my pc started showing BSOD during further updates.
The error is always caused by ntsf.sys and is reported as STOP 0x050, page fault in non paged area
I have since checked many things: I replaced the single 4GB ram for two new 4GB dimms, no effect.
I checked the HD with seatools in a DOS boot, a short scan reported a problem initially, a long scan found 1 error but crashed before the repair. A rerun of the long scan completed, allowing me to fix the error, and the subsequent and further short and long scans reported no problems with the HD. But the problem still occurs.
as far as troubleshooting goes:
I cannot further update Windows because it give BSOD
I have tried removing Avast v6.0, but during this process BSOD
I cannot install updated MB drivers since this will also give a BSOD.
Running chkdsk also results in BSOD.
I found a work around the frequent occurring BSOD by disabling the auto update feature of Windows. It turns out that any attempt to update programs incl. Windows gives a BSOD during / at the end of the the creating system restore point phase.
Also I need to switch of auto sleep mode, because during waking up it give a BSOD
So I think either there is a hardware problem somewhere, and then I need to replace that, or it is a software problem in which case I most likely have to reinstall everything. I hope you can point me to the right cause of these problems. Thanks a lot for looking!
