Windows 7: BSOD every couple minutes

64 bit
Original OS was Vista
Full retail
My PC is about 2 years old
I upgraded to Windows 7 a little over a year ago.



Crashes got less frequent after I uninstalled my anti-virus program.
Safe-mode does not get any BSODs.
I have made no notable software additions and no hardware additions recently.

What kind of hardware are you running, video card, etc.? If safe mode is fine it sounds like perhaps a driver issue, something that doesn't load in safe mode, maybe the video driver? Also, have you any other anti-virus stuff installed? Did you upgrade from Vista or do a clean install? I'm guessing this is a recent problem by your post. Have you tried system restore to a point previous to the problem?

I have a Nvidia 9800 GT graphics card, for which I reinstalled the driver after this problem began, so I don't think that is the problem. The only anti-virus program I had was Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 which is gone now. I upgraded from Vista a little over a year ago and this problem occured a few days ago. I have tried to do a system restore to before the problem began, however, at first it bluescreened almost every time I tried, then once it had done it without a BSOD it said their was an error because my anti-virus was not letting system restore change some file. I have not tried since I've unistalled KIS 2011 so I'll try that now I guess. Any opinions on how I can do a check-up on all my drivers to see if the problem is there?--Google search for Driver updaters returned alot of crap I would have to sift through...

One thing I would do is make sure I have everything I need backed up to DVDs or thumb drive or whatever. Do you have an upgrade version of Windows 7? I personally have had little luck upgrading operating systems, whether it's Windows ofr Linux. I always to a clean install, but that's just been my experience. YMMV. I suspected a driver since things are OK in safe mode. You might take a look and see what services are being started and see if you can find if one of them is causing the problem.
