    BOSD 0x000000d1 ataport.sys

Hey there. A friend of mine has been having BSOD issues for quite some time now, and I've only just caught wind of it. He's running a brand new PSU, CPU, GPU, RAM and Mobo that he bought in the hopes of fixing the problem. In fact, the only things not changed are the DVD drive and HDD.

For whatever reason, this issue has persisted throughout system builds, but for all I know it might have been a different issue because this is the first time I've seen a memory dump. It's zipped below, but the gist I got was that there's an issue with ataport.sys (with a mention of ntoskrnl.exe) with the bug check code 0x000000d1.

We've run spc /Scannow and Windows Memory Diagnostic both of which returned nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I should add, the BSOD's only occur if he watched a video or plays a game. Normal browsing/sitting on Ventrilo is fine.

    He's on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium.

    Hello Razz, welcome to SF!

    You're right it was a D1. pointing to ataport.sys.
Regretfully, that can still mean a lot of things. I'm missing your logs (please post full info as instructed here: https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html )

Normally I'd say highest chances are that you need to update graphics drivers...
But in this case I'd first like full info on what this friends system is first, as your perfmon warnings of HW components being barely up to speed, are all over the place... Maybe it's nothing, but I need the info anyway to be able to link to the right drivers etc...

Sorry about that, I assumed that process was just to upload the minidump, which I'd already received.

    See attached.

There are a couple of things noticeable here:

    1. Problems with (finishing) Windows Update. Please check your Maintenance center and finish updates, manually if needed?

    2. There seem to be some problems with PnP drivers that have not been resolved. Both USB and some PCI connected HW, still checking that now.

That may also be the reason for your ataport error in the dump. If possible, renew HDD drivers.

Alright, I've got him making sure Windows is completely up to date now. But you've lost me a little bit at hard drive drivers. The drive is a Samsung model, but their site gives me the run around and Google isn't particularly helpful either.

Perhaps I should just get him to update GPU drivers, chipset drivers and pretty much everything else?

Alright, Windows is now fully up to date and new chipset drivers are installed. Should I get him to try and make it blue screen and re-run the system information and BSOD dump exe if it continues?
