    Win7 BSOD Question....

Well, as a forum Owner/Admin, I know that threads have proper category's to go into. So, I'm hoping this is in the right place!

    Anyways...my question is this....

I have a HP Pavillion tower, specs are listed in my profile, and I upgraded it to Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit from Win Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Then, about a month later, I upgraded my graphics card from an nVidia 8300 series (I think) with 256MB of ram to a nVidia 9300 series with 1 gig of ram.

    So, question time....

Normally, everything works great and the PC is super fast. However, it seems that I've been getting a ton of blue screen crashes lately. Now, I know there is a thread somewhere around here that says "post your BSOD number and we'll help", so I'm hoping to catch that number....in the meantime, is their any suggestions on how I can find out/narrow down/determine what is causing all this?

I never really had any major problems when it was running Vista. (The "occasional" BSOD)..

I know it's not overheating, I know all the memory sticks are good, it's spotless inside, no dust buildup....

    Help?

    Thanks in advance!!

Hello. Here on SF is forum Crashes and Debugging. Also read this thread Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions and post files that are needed so the BSOD Squad can help you. :)
Also there is Crash and lockup debug 'How To' section.

Here is some reading for the Blue Screen waiting room: troubleshooting steps

Assuming you checked your Power Supply was adequate to power the Video Card upgrade?

You have tried all recent Win7 drivers for the card, including that delivered by optional Windows Updates after enabling hardware auto-updating? Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware

The 1st step I would take is to google the BSOD stop error from the Blue Screen. You may discover the cause and solution without further effort:

    Troubleshooting specific Stop messages

    stop error - Google Search

If your system restarts before you can read the blue screen:

Disable Automatic Restart on BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) « Tech Help

    @gregrocker.....

That JUST popped into my head after I posted this thread...lol...gawd, I wonder if it is something that simple. I think my current power supply is only a 300w. I will look into that as well...

I'll post back with some results....

Edit: I just looked on nVidia's site. The minimum power supply recommended for that card is 350 watts, where as my power supply is only 300.....uh-oh....

I just did a little searching. My card, in this order, has the following inputs, vga - hdmi - dvi. I found this card
EVGA 01G-P3-1225-LR GeForce GT 220 Video Card - 1024MB DDR2, PCI-Express 2.0, DVI, HDMI, VGA at TigerDirect.com online...it's got all the same specs, but the inputs are in a different order....

I wonder what card I have exactly? I wonder if I'm incorrect about the exact name of the card?

Just passing thru but you can go into device manager and go to the display driver>properties>hardware ID's

take the hardware ID's and google them it will tell you what card you have.
