    BSOD System Service Exception


    I have gotten this crash while the computer is idle for a few hours, I come back to a blue screen and have to reboot, which works, but a few days later it happens again, three times so far in this very new system, only about 30 days old, built by a local shop which installed Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit and Microsoft Office. I installed Google Chrome, AVG and Adblock. I followed the instructions to obtain a Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 folder and a System Health Report, which are attached. Appreciate any help.

    Hello Jim, Welcome to SF!

    In these cases my first answer is... use your warranty.

    But if you do want to look into things yourself:
    1. As a test, please un-install AVG.
    Please see these links for uninstalling your AV:

    Then reboot.
    Sometimes these uninstallers do not remove all they should out of Registry:
    Run CCleaner, both regular and registry.
    Next install your preferred AV immediately. You can try Avast! for free until proven stable. AVG is known to often cause problems in W7.

    Second; there is no dump file. Dump creation might be off:
    To ensure minidumps are enabled:

    Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

    Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
    Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
    Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
    Under the Write Debugging Information header
    Select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
    Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
    OK your way out.
    Reboot if changes have been made.
    You also have some HP drivers/dll's that I don't recognize. As your system is a custom built one and I have no dump, I can't tell whether they are a problem... Let's remember them and first do the above. Post back any results, please?

    Thanks for the generous help. I did end up using my warranty, because after trying a few tips from browsing these forums, my system would not boot at all! I may be too ambitious for my computer skills level. Anyway the tech was able to boot my system right away, didn't even need the installation disk. So all he could think of was to upgrade the BIOS and the RST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology using an SSD). I just got the system back and have not turned it on yet, so fingers crossed..

    He said perhaps a USB peripheral I have connected was the problem, all I can do is try disconnecting them if it happens again. I also mentioned that I had deleted a profile created when I used the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to migrate from my old XP system to the new W7 system, and he said that may have left behind stuff that is contributing to the problem and I may have to reinstall W7 if nothing else fixes it. He was surprised about the advice to uninstall AVG, his shop has not had a problem in about 300 W7 builds to date, so I may do that only as a last resort before reinstalling W7. He also warned me not to use CClean on the registry because that might cause more problems than fixes.

    I will try to enable minidumps so there is more data to consider if this happens again. I don't have any HP products that I can think of, so I don't know why I would have those drivers/dll.
