Windows Indexing service won't start

For the past 3-4 days I keep getting error reports from "Solve PC Issues" that boil down to the Indexing service isn't running. Going into the Services and trying to start it fails. Control Panel > Trouble shooting > History > Searching and Indexing contains the following information:

So it doesn't appear to find anything wrong except that the service isn't running and won't start manually which has knock on effects with searching.
