[QUOTE=eraseme;1560922]Yea you have the vtxe120g like I did initially. That was the garbage one they were selling everyone and they replaced it with the non 'e' model.
I wouldn't rule the 67 chipset out as a possibility. Already they had the first controller recall with the 1155 chipset asus boards and alot of people having similar issues are running these mobos as well.
I think we are talking about the same things. Recommend updates using Windows update just like you get your security updates or a SP.
Old xp system specs now running the RMA replaced Vertex 2 as OS drive:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
MOBO: A8N-VM CSM
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
GPU: eVGAGeforce 8800GT Ultra Superclocked 512MB + Thermaltake
AUDIO: Sound Blaster 2 Audigy 5.1
RAM:3GB DDR RAM PC3200 Mushkin / Micron
PSU: Noisetaker 420W
STORAGE:OCZ Vertex 2 120GB (OS)
WD Black 1TB (data)
WD 750GB (data)
ENCLOSURE: Antec P180 Mini
Really hoping the RMA replacement vertex 2 holds up. The old machine is so much faster now, I dont know if I can go back. *fingers crossed*
This new machine is still driving me insane. Sometimes it'll go a few days absolutely no problems and then freeze out of the blue, other times within 10 seconds after logging in. There is no rhyme or reason to this thing. No obvious triggers.

V2kia, just a though. Your power supply close to the limits with that video card. If it were my computer I would stick at lease 650w power supply of a known good brand. Corsair, Antec, ect. This is just a suggestion from me.
Oh my new W7x64 machine is running an 850W corsair so plenty of overhead. I know I'm pushing the limit on my old system with the 420W but it hasn't given me any trouble so far. Thanks for the suggestion. In the future I may bump it up a couple Watts seeing as PSU's arent overly pricey these days.
No other gurus have any insight for me on my annoying new computer system?
Is there nothing else I can do from my end?
Just another few suggestions if not already mentioned:
* Safe Mode
* Replace videocard with another ordinary card, just to be sure it had nothing to to with it
* fukc around with some BIOS settings like AHCI/IDE or SATA options
* Dubblecheck Asus.com for Mainboard updates
* Check Intel for firmware updates for 510 AND p67 updates for Mboard chipset (compare with the ones on Asus)
* Try Firmware downgrades
* Dubblecheck windows settings like turn off indexing and some other things that are best for your SSD.
* Try USB boot tools and do some tests
* RMA card and try again
* Keep searching on Google or Intel with the right combination of keywords
I remember seeing a review of the 510 where a test tool reported power offs of the 510 caused by SATA port.
* Erase disk with the appropiated tool and start all over again but now make a step by step diary.
Also make images during the new installation process.
* Think harder
