Be sure and delete the entire folder starting with the AVG.. Looks like we missed one.

Can you tell me what the full path is. What I'm seeing there is some program presenting a long path with the ~ notation.

unchecked it, rebooted, slightly the same problem. system did not lock, but I could not open anything.

Demetros,

Now I'm getting confused.

Let's start at this like I don't know anything (which wouldn't be far from wrong).

You state your problem.

Now we have one advantage in that I know which actions you have taken.

State your problem.
This is also going to be very important since I will probably ask some others to take a look at your problem and I don't want them to have to read thru the many earlier posts, but that they be able to quickly get a grasp of the problem.

Ive tried to install several programs.
During installation I get a popup stating "User 'SYSTEM' has previously initiated an install for product 'AVG 2011'. That user will need to run that install again before they can use that product. Your current install will now continue. click (OK).
Then another popup "Error An installation for AVG 2011 is currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes? Answer Y or N.
I ve done both. The first thing I notice is the second hand on my desktop clock freezes then a short time later the mouse locks. Num Lock continues to work. Can't do anything. I reset. Computer seems to work fine. Until I install something. I also cant uninstall things..er somethings. During an uninstall computer just locks up. No errors. Ive tried to re-install AVG same problem. Any thoughts on a solution? It seems to be when I use install shield or the windows install, the system looks to remove the incomplete install and hangs.
Ive tried the to re install AVG and then used the avg_remover_stf_x64_2012_1796.exe - Same problems.
Ive gone through and deleted every AVG file I can find. Hidden as well. - Same problems.
Ive used CCleaner, Autoruns and SCANNOW. - Same problem.

Demetros,

In this procedure you are going to be deleting entries in the Registry.

It is imperative that you perform a "create a restore point".
This is so that, in the case of the wrong info being deleted that you can go back and put the registry in order by restore to the restore point you saved.

To create a restore point:
| type create a restore point | Enter
type a name for your restore point and Enter again.

Run Autoruns.exe as administrator.

Avter the "everything" tab has fully populated, then:
Ctrl + Home ------ this will position the cursor at the start of the list
Ctrl + F ----------- this will pop-up the Find dialog
enter AVG
The only thing that should be checked is Down
ENTER --- the find will commence.

You may get responses for entries that are not related to your problem.
Ignore these entries.

To continue searchng,
Ctrl + F and then Enter ------ you will advance to the occurrence.

When you find an entry for AVG that is related to your problem then:
Right-click and choose Jump to
You will go to an entry in the registry.
Right-click on the highlighted entry and choose Delete

Now here is a neat feature.
Once again click on Jump to
You will be sent to the next occurrence in the registry of AVG where you can once again delete.
Keep doing this until nothing more AVG entries of interest are found.

Now using just that single AVG from the Everything list you've done some registry cleaning, but you are not finished.

Right-click on the AVG entry and choose Properties.
This is going to show you the file and the location of the file
In the top box of the General tab----is the name of the file.
In the Location field-----is the location of the file.
Write down the location and the name.
You will be going to that location, finding the file and deleting the file.

When you've finished going thru all of them with the registry cleaning,
close autoruns
Delete the files you wrote down.

Restart your computer.

The real source of those messages could be from another program you have installed.
To help investigate this possibility, then the startup.txt and install.txt files from CCleaner are needed. Here is how:
list of STARTUP PROGRAMS
CCleaner | Tools icon | Startup button |
click on Save to text file button (bottom right side)

Attach the startup.txt file generated by CCleaner
CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

List of INSTALLED PROGRAMS
CCleaner | Tools icon | Uninstall button |
click on Save to text file button (bottom right side)

Attach the install.txt file generated by CCleaner.
