BSOD Problems with possible graphics card/virus?

Hi there,

As you can see from the following thread I have been having problems with my graphics card.

http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/188683-help-graphics-card-crashing.html

I am now convinced it is another problem, very possibly to do with a virus or 12.

I have attached the report as stated in the forum, but if you look at it you can see it's saying that my antivirus, a paid AVG 9 license, is not working. When I try and go into AVG and see if the resident shield is turned on, it won't let me in and gives me "0xE0018E02 Error during plug in loading."

I am running msert.exe, the Microsoft Safety Scanner, and so far we are halfway through the scan and no infected files have been detected.

Anyways, my computer is repeatedly crashing and is really slow and is generally annoying me, especially as I have just started my new semester at university!

Please help!

Thanks,
Kerrigor

Points to a HD issue please run chkdsk

A- CHKDSK /R /F:

Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt.

Do this for each hard drive on your system.

When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter.

Then reboot and let the test run.

It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors.

See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

B- Elevated Command Prompt:

Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)

At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

C-CHKDSK LogFile:

Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.

Double click on the Source column header.

Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).

Copy/paste the results into your next post.

Im sorry it has taken me so long to reply, I have had serious problems with my ISP (Virgin Media...NOT RECOMMENDED!) and have had very intermittent access.

Here's the details you wanted.

Also, to note, I scanned my pc with the Microsoft Safety Scanner and it removed 6 Viruses but not the following one.

VirTool:Win32/Obfuscator.XZ

I am dling the Windows Safety Scanner at the moment, but it didn't seem to be following any of the symptoms described online until yesterday when I think it started crashing Windows Explorer.

I also still cannot launch my Antivirus.

Thanks a lot!

Well I have had no more problems with crashing and I have been able to remove the virus, so thanks a lot.

The graphics card is still crashing though, I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them and tried different versions, but its crashing every so often which is annoying.

I'll deal with this in another thread in the graphics card section though.

Thanks a lot.
