Diagonostics Question need help ASAP!! Hi
Having computer issues so am running Dells Diagnostics Disk and have finished most of it but it just popped up with the below warning Quote: "The next step requires that no medias in the drive. Please remove the media if there is any in the drive. Close the tray and press OK when you are ready. Press cancel to skip this step." Problem I have is the diagnostics is being run off the CD since I can not boot my computer at all. So should I cancel this step being the CD is in the tray or is it safe to remove the CD without having to restart the whole diagnostics test??? | My System Specs |
| System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron N7010 - Laptop OS windows 7 home 64 bit Memory 6 GB Mouse mouse pad Hard Drives 1 - 600GB Drive - More to come later just running a system diagnostics at the moment so no access to that info at this moment. Other Info Built in Speaker, Mic, Webcam, DVD/CD Drive, Card readers, Blue tooth wireless.
I have but are NOT plugged in at the moment. Microsoft Intellipoint Optical Mouse USB, Headphones, several external Hard drives. |

Before I do that though what will happen to this diagnostics as the CD contains the diagnostics
And if removed does it give you chance to replace it following the CD Drive test?? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron N7010 - Laptop OS windows 7 home 64 bit Memory 6 GB Mouse mouse pad Hard Drives 1 - 600GB Drive - More to come later just running a system diagnostics at the moment so no access to that info at this moment. Often, boot CDs load all the required software into RAM and it then runs from there. Most likely, removing the disc would have been perfectly OK.

(Why didn't you just try it ) Maybe cause it had taken me about 7-8 hours to get to that point and did not want to lose 7-8 hours of testing. So you canceled the remainder of the test instead...I can sort of understand where you're coming from, but still, the onscreen instructions were pretty clear... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom-built OS Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz, overclocked to 2.7GHz Motherboard Asus PL5D2 Memory 4GB DDR2-667 (4x1GB in dual-channel config) Graphics Card nVidia GeForce 9800 GT Sound Card Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic Monitor(s) Displays Acer Screen Resolution 1920x1200 (DVI) Keyboard Standard Mouse Microsoft wireless optical mouse PSU Antec TruePower 2.0 Case Cooler Master Centurion Cooling various fans Hard Drives OCZ SSD Vertex Plus 60GB SATA (Firmware 3.55), 64MB cache

yes but it also gives you the option to cancel. So the test did not have to be completed either.
And friend of mine whose a Dell Computer Engineer later replied to me advising me to skip the test.
And it only skipped the DVD Drive test not the remainder of the test only that couple steps as it tested it a couple times so only that got canceled after thet is tested the rest of what was to be tested | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron N7010 - Laptop OS windows 7 home 64 bit Memory 6 GB Mouse mouse pad Hard Drives 1 - 600GB Drive - More to come later just running a system diagnostics at the moment so no access to that info at this moment.
