    Instant Shutdowns while watching videos

    Greetings,

    Laptop ACER 5750G,
    Win 7 Pro 64 bit.
    i5 2nd gen
    Nvidia 540m GT
    500 gb HD
    4 GB ram
    (Detailed Spec sheet attached)

    History:
There has been a problem with the laptop since I got it, previously I used to get plenty of BSODs and insta-shutdowns. BSODs stemmed mostly from the drivers. So I reformatted the laptop and switched to win64 from win32 and it appears to be alot better now.

    Current Issue:
However, I still get insta-shutdowns while watching videos (streaming and from HD). I know it is not overheating, I can play SC2 for hours. The temps are >80, while watching movies temps are alot less for GPU and CPU. I have even updated to the latest BIOS. I have not tested super extensively due to limited time but over the course of last month or so, most frequent shut downs occur while watching videos.

Pls advise, I'll really appreciate it,
    Many Thanks!

Today, another error came, the screen started flickering while I was surfing the net. I had to hard-restart the laptop.

Hi Seth500, got another instant-shut down while surfing the net. It just happens, there is no BSOD, no warning, it just shuts down and restarts.

I have attached the report you require,

    Many thanks Seth!

Hi phrozenflame lets do this following the quote:

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

    The procedure:

    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

    To ensure minidumps are enabled:

    * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
    * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
    * Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
    * Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
    * Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
    * OK your way out.
    * Reboot if changes have been made.
Ok after you have done that follow this guide: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

After you have done that make sure the computer bluescreens at least twice then open verifier again either in normal mode or safe mode if you can't get to normal mode and delete the existing setting to shutdown the verifier.

Enabling the verifier is gonna help find the biggest loser of your drivers please repost your findings through the bsod posting guide and will go from there: https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

    Hi,

Unfortunately, Crash occurred again and there was nothing..I double-checked your instructions and everything is how it is supposed to be.

There was no BSOD, no dump files

    Really lost right now :/

Well start here open a elevated command prompt by going to start and typing cmd in the search bar and right clicking on the prompt and click run as administrator and the type sfc /scannow in the prompt window. This will check for corrupt system files. Anyway when you computer restarts is it basically like someone pressing the reset button or does the monitor make any weird appearances and any popping sounds through the speakers.

Also go to the start menu and type in msconfig in the search bar and when the window pops up select Diagnostic startup and then reboot the computer by doing this we only load basic drivers and services only so if it reboots in this this mode then we know we have a hardware issue on our hands if it doesn't then we no it's software related.

    Hi,

Finally got the dumps! :) Posting. Tho, one dump is missing, it did not save on BSOD for some reason I think. The BSOD was "MEMORY MANAGEMENT".

Rest are attached FYI. Also, problem seems to be escalating a bit. Sometimes, Windows get stuck on loading screen (one before login) and I need to restart a couple times to get it working. It itself starts working after the restarts, sometimes once, sometimes more.

    Thanks!
