Random BSOD

Hello,

- I have 64bit Windows 7
- It is the original OS of my system, and it came pre-installed
- Laptop is about 3 months old, and have not re-installed the OS

Computer randomly has BSOD several times in the last week or so. Have not touched any hardware/drivers. Can't recall installing any new software recently. Uncertain about what to do. Let me know if any more information would help.

Thank you!
Flis

Hi Flis Lister and welcome to SF!
All crashes happened basically during interactions with the Network and/or Internet. So I would run this to exclude interactions between Comodo and something "unsavory":
Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer
To exclude a damaged system driver I'd like you to run this:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

The random update of drivers we'll keep as a last resort

I would suggest that you update NIC & wifi drivers -
Code:
Rt64win7.sys Sun May 30 23:46:43 2010 (4C033123) - Realtek Etherent

rtl8192se.sys Fri Jul 10 07:57:04 2009 (4A572C90) - Realtek wifi
http://sysnative.com/0x1/DriverReference.html#Rt64win7.sys
http://sysnative.com/0x1/DriverReference.html#rtl8192se.sys

Both are rather old for Windows 7 SP1. Realtek wifi pre-dates Windows 7 RTM.

Thanks SledgeDG and jcgriff2 for the quick replies!

I downloaded Malwarebytes and did a scan; no problems found though.
I also did the "System File Checker" thing, also with no problems found.

I updated the drivers, as you suggested jcgriff2. Everything seems to be working properly, so I don't believe I screwed anything up in the process.

I guess the only thing to do at this point is see if another BSOD event happens. Lets hope it doesn't!

Thanks a lot for you help! I really appreciate it,
Flis

Also Flis as in my own case if the Realtek drivers don't seem to cure the BSoDs, and if there are updated drivers available on your computer manufacturers site, download those. Those drivers did the job, not the newest updated ones from Realtek site.

BSOD at seemingly random times, memory dump blaming random drivers
I've been plagued by odd problems since making this custom build about a month ago, but the latest is the increasing frequency of BSODs.
