back soon.
I'm no expert at this but that says to me somewhere along the line some boot files were transferred to disk "2" by mistake. Start-up repair should have fixed that and you should be good from here on in.

Update:

well it hung again this morning and this time i switched off the external that it tries to boot from ,or that is causing the hang and it booted normally.
funnily enough i had the exact same issue with my old desktop but with a different external, although it wasnt until i upgraded from vista to win 7 that the problem started on the old one.

slightly puzzling ,im going to try reset the boot order so that the desktop drive is first in the boot queue

MMmmm that drive is trying to butt in on the boot sequence somewhere.

well the external. (iomega 1T) has now taken to not showing in "computer", it will show several hours after the pc has been booted, thus making it unreliable and untrustworthy. so i have copied the files from it and no longer use it. bit of a bummer really as i could do with the extra space, will have to buy a new one for birthday now.

Try installing the external drive in another USP port. I would also not have it active.

Start menu issue
Can anyone help here please: Since updating my Win7 x64 I find that many of my programs will not open via the Start Menu, although they will open via the desktop. Is there any way to refresh or repair the Start Menu without re-associating every shortcut on the menu? Thanks for any/all help.

Start up issue.
When my computer is booting up at the Windows 7 picture it looks like it is becoming unstable almost if it is looking for the installation disk. Within seconds it passes this process and then boots up normally. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any thoughts on how to fix or correct?
