Windows 7 will not fully shut down, problems with sleep mode.

Hello all,

I recently purchased a new computer, an Alienware, and have had some issues with shutting down and sleep mode. When I try to shut the computer down, it frequently stalls on the "shutting down" screen, and no matter how long I leave it, it will stay there, so I have to manually turn it off. Of course, this is not ideal. Second, when the computer is coming out of sleep mode, often times I will not be able to connect to the internet (the network icon will have a ! in the lower right hand corner of the screen) and when I attempt to reboot the computer, it again freezes. I am running a 64 bit operating system, and any help you can lend would be greatly appreciated!!

First off, I can tell you that- when you awake your computer, the connection will be offline in some cases. Mine does that too.

About the core of the problem, i'm stumped.

Let's wait for more techies.

Computer will not shut down after being woken up from sleep mode
This is a very odd problem that I have never encountered before. The computer shuts down perfectly fine if it hasn't been put to sleep at any point during use. The only thing I have tried is updating the BIOS and that didn't change anything. If anyone could shed some light on this issue I would...

Always Goes Into Sleep Mode At Shut Down
I restored my laptop to factory settings a few days ago using the built in Dell Backup and Recovery Manager. This isn't the first time I've done this but something happened. Now, whenever I shut down the computer using Start > Shut Down button (on the start menu) it goes into sleep mode. After the...

Computer does not fully shut down or go to sleep
My laptop occasionally does not completely shut down/sleep/hibernate. It goes through all the steps up to where the screen turns off, but I can tell the computer doesn't turn off because the power button stays lit up as well as the lighted keyboard. Laptop originally had Vista 64bit installed...

Laptop does not fully enter sleep mode
Hi all, I've been experiencing this issue with Win 7 for a while now, I recently formatted and reinstalled a clean copy of Windows 7. I also made sure all of my drivers worked with my current laptop model, and made sure they were the most recent ones I could get. Finally I've got good protection...

Sleep Mode vs Shut Down
I just read an old thread from last year on here about this subject. I had XP before I just switched to Win 7. I did not ever turn off the XP. I like the convenience of sitting down and starting to work. Booting each time was too much like Dial-Up. My power supply on the XP machine lasted 5...
