    Random BSOD, error 0x0000008e

I've gotten this error before and I'm not quite sure what it is. I looked around and saw that some people thought it was a virus/rootkit and others thought it was the memory or some other hardware failing. I'm of the opinion that it is my memory or my motherboard, but once again, I'm not quite sure. I uploaded a zip file with my minidump in it. Any help you guys can offer would be great.

    BTW,
    Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit SP1
    3 GB Ram (3 sticks)
EVGA Geforce 9600 GT Superclocked Edition
AMD Athlon FX-60 Dual Core CPU

I hope this solves it for you.

Had the same problem - my computer just shut down by itself. Took me 2 days to figure out by reading countless forum post.

Turns out it was a rootkit virus that couldn't be seen in malware scans.

I finally got this from Kaspersky How to remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS (aka Tidserv, TDSServ, Alureon)?

I ran it and haven't had a problem since. Even my windows update works again.

Let me know if it works for you.

    Cheers.
