Streaming Video freezes computer after downloading SP1

Hi, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and recently downloaded SP1. Now when I stream video, the whole computer freezes often and seemingly at random times. The video stops, the sound gets stuck on one note, and I am unable to use the mouse or keyboard until it unfreezes which is sometimes twenty seconds, but sometimes twenty minutes. It eventually unfreezes and usually continues playing like normal. I have tried using chrome, firefox, and explorer all with the same results. Do you have any idea how to fix this? Thanks.

Might be useful to see the system error logs, could you go ahead and follow the instructions here

Just zip and attach the output using the little paperclip icon.

I think you may have waited too long to install sp1.
From what I can tell your copy of windows is quite old, and errors became rampant all around with faulting apps right about the time the service pack was installed.
There are certain recommended steps to take before installing the pack. Unfortunately it's a bit late for that now.

Aside from that I notice you have an atheros made wireless device, have you recently updated the driver for it?
They released a massive number of updates recently and it's something I have seen causing people problems.
It would be under optional updates in the windows update window.
I would suggest installing any drivers located there.

As for the massive faulting apps. We should run a check on the windows core files.
Don't worry it's nothing complicated just follow the steps here.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Get back to me with the results from those. I should warn you my insomnia is wearing off and it'll probably be many hours before I can respond again.

I was able to run most of those driver updates and SFC like you suggested. SFC claimed it could not fix everything, but I ran videos for a couple hours today and so far didn't have any freezes. I'll keep playing videos and see if it continues to work. Its a nice excuse to catch up on my 80's movies.

if SFC got any hits at all that does indicate problems with the core files, hopefully it fixed enough of them for you to get by.
If it didn't fix all you could still suffer problems down the road though.
