    Bluescreen Nt kernel & system;driver corrupt


    Greetings from Adelaide South Australia,city of churches and bizarre murder capital of Australia.(really) Also recently voted the world's sixth most livable city.


    I have an Acer Aspire all-in-one, model Z7561. Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Purchased Monday October 17 2011,so is still under warranty.

    Blue screen on start up,but recovered and is running fine right now.

    An app called "Blue Screen View' shows the error is caused by ;nt kernel & system. Driver corrupt (ntosknl.exe)

    I guess I need a new driver.any suggestions will be most welcome.


    My skill level:semi-computer literate. By that I mean I can pretty much get my computer to do what I want, and can usually (eventually) fix faults,although I sometimes need help.




    PS I have an app called 'Slimdrivers' whic has identified 17 out of date drivers. I don't want to install all of them ,just this one.But,I can't recognise it on the list.Any suggestions would be welcome.Would also welcome suggestions for any first rate (FREE) driver repair/update software

    We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

    You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

    To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

    The procedure:

    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
    *If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.


    To ensure minidumps are enabled:

    * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
    * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
    * Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
    * Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
    * Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
    * OK your way out.
    * Reboot if changes have been made.

    Oh,my apologies,I though that was it.

    I'll see if I can follow the instructions.


    Last crash was 7.30 am Sunday 23.Since then I have installed a whole bunch of new system drivers.

    However, I'm not assuming the issue is resolved.I really want to understand what happened and how to fix it.

    No worries. From the file list you appear to be running Mcaffee and that is a known cause of crashes on some systems. I would remove and replace it with Microsoft
    Security essentials

    Thank you,I'll do that.

    I'm very sorry,but I've gone and gotten all confused.I seem to be stuck at step (1) of the posting instructions. Imagine you're explaining to a rather dim 12 year old.

    I've downloaded and run 'autoruns' and get a spiffy list..What exactly am I meant to save,and how? I can't see a Windows 7 icon or line.

    I'm beginning to suspect this problem may be beyond me. That's a pity;I hate not understanding,makes me feel like a monkey.


    PS also ran a driver verifier called 'memtest' which tests the RAM; 8 passes no errors found.

    OK

    When your computer crashes it creates a log called a DMP (short for memory dump). That file is in a folder on your C: drive (or where ever the os is).

    You need to navigate to the folder C:|windows\minidump. Inside that folder will be one file for each crash,.

    Take those file and drag them to your desktop and compress (ZIP) them

    Using the paper-clipped shaped icon on the reply form upload them to us with your next post.

    How To Find Drivers:
    - search Google for the name of the driver
    - compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
    - visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
    - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
    - - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference
    - - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads
