    New SSD gives BSOD randomly then can't find drive during boot.

    Hello there.

    So I installed a new Vertex 3 120gb SSD to my new system, installed Windows 7 x64 and I am getting a BSOD at random times. When the computer restarts on its own the SSD is not found in the bios. What I have to do is open the case, adjust the cables a little bit and start again and the problem is resolved.

    I tried changing the sata cables but the problem seems to remain the same. I formatted and re-installed windows several times but that did not help. This happens at completely random times. Sometimes it might not do it for two straight days but it happens (I have the computer on 24/7 so sometimes when I wake up the computer is restarted asking me to select a proper boot device because the SSD is not found.

    I'd appreciate any help.

    PC Specs
    Win7 Professional x64 (MSDNAA version)
    Intel core i7 2600k
    Asus P8P67 LE

    No DMP files included in upload please try this method

    We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

    You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

    To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

    The procedure:

    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
    *If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

    To ensure minidumps are enabled:

    * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
    * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
    * Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
    * Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
    * Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
    * OK your way out.
    * Reboot if changes have been made.

    Ok so I assume I have to wait until this happens again so I upload the dump files correct?

    Should I have automatic restart enabled?

    No on auto restart.

    Have you used search to locate the DMP file?

    Do you have a page file on the same HD as the OS?

    I am having the exact same problem with my SSD, also can't find any dump files. Settings are exactly the same as the OP

    I did search for the files but I did not find any. I changed the location of the dump files to an external HD so I'm waiting for another error to happen and check it then. Not sure about your second question.

    I updated the firmware of my SSD and the BIOS of my motherboard 2 days ago, and I still haven't had a BSOD since. Don't want to jinx it but hopefully this resolved the issue. Fingers crossed
