Windows 7: Can't reach login screen normally, though safemode works.

I talked to a friend of mine who knows about computers, and even he's never seen anything like this.

It's pretty simplistic, really. When I turn on my computer, it starts normally at first, but as soon as it would normally play the beginning tune and show the login screen, instead, the musical tone cuts off, and the screen flickers wildly at seizure-inducing speeds. I can see through the flickering the blue of the login screen, yet no profile icons or the text box. As well, I can see the little keyboard button, though its been pushed to the top left of the screen, and I can see and move my mouse normally (though the mouse icon itself relentlessly flickers, like the screen, between normal mouse, mouse with loading circle, and loading circle)



I have no idea what could be causing this, especially considering I just installed Windows 7 fresh all of 2 days ago. As the title says, I can still log in normally when in safe mode. I've heard a number of different opinions as to the cause, such as the prefetch/superfetch programs, possible faulty motherboard, the fact that I didn't do anything special even though I installed it onto a solid state drive, etc.

Any ideas on how I can solve this? I can provide further computer details if needed, as well as a list (that a friend had suggested I make) of every program that I install or alter from the initial Windows install.

try uninstalling your video drivers to see if that helps.

I had hope when I tried, but no luck. It showed the blue background and Windows 7 logo, along with the keyboard button and mouse, but after a second, it returned to the same pattern of flickering. it's as if the screen itself is refreshing or turning on and off rapidly.

did you install any other drivers after the fresh install or before the trouble started? cause i maybe wrong but i think (safe mode) will bypass some or most drivers.

another thing you may want to try is boot in safe mode and try changing your Screen Resolution and see if that helps.

I went through my list of installed things, and there are few things I could think of that would have done that, in terms of installed programs. I have steam, and when using steam to install Bioshoc 2, I also had to install "Windows Live Gaming" which seemed to also install an alarmingly large number of "Microsoft Visual C++" redristributables. Then there's the "Unity Web Player" which was, I believe, needed to play Frozen Synapses, and finally, there's the program SolidWorks 2011, which notably wouldn't open recently, following afterwords the error when I restarted the computer, though I don't believe it'd caused issues prior.

yes your right i didn't think of that.
the only 2 other things are wait for others input or reformat the drive and start over . or i guss you can also try uninstalling the programs you installed and see if that fix's it. sorry i could not be of more help..

It's alright. I'll leave this thread up and check on it tomorrow to see if anyone else can help, too. It's only been up for about an hour after all, right? Don' feel bad though, I seem to be cursed in terms of computers x.x Every time I have one, my computer-knowing friend has an aneurism because he knows it's going to be something bizarre with no apparent cause or solution. I'm jinxed, I swear.

Edit - I checked, and while I couldn't uninstall anything in safemode, I could if I started in "Directory Service Restore Mode". This gives me an idea. Since I can still do things In this mode (in which the graphics drivers and a number of other features still work) what can I do to find out what, in the -normal- startup, is causing this error? can it be fixed? Can a program locate the issues?
