    Extremely annoying freeze

    Hi guys,

My problem started about a week ago, my windows freezes more and more frequently at random times.

Origin: It doesn't seem to be in connection with system load, but it occurs with a bigger probability when i launch certain programes.

Effect, behaviour: The active application that i am working with and the system tray freezes simultaneously. Tray looks normal but doesn't react to mouse-overing. App freezes completely, other apps and desktop seems to be working on mouseovering but I can't launch any further programes. When I start clicking randomly, sometimes tray goes white like it has to or windows gives me a 'microsoft windows' popup error with the ability to end windows process but it does nothing.
If i leave it alone it gives me a BSOD after like 2 minutes, as seen below. But it never creates the dump file and it hangs forever like this.

My thoughts: If it was a memory leak, mouseover effects would be very slow on the desktop after windows freezes.
Shall i create a system health report too?

Here is my previous BSOD thread with the same installation, I found the error itself similar...

    Thanks in advance!

There were no DMP files in the upload. Try this method instead.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

    The procedure:

    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

    To ensure minidumps are enabled:

    * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
    * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
    * Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
    * Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
    * Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
    * OK your way out.
    * Reboot if changes have been made.

I have figured out that I have minidump enabled correctly, but i have set the paging file to none on the system drive..

I turned it on now, hopefully I can get a dmp file next time.

    Thanks zigzag

The problem significantly reduced. Now only explorer freezes (it is likely to freeze sometimes since i use a custom theme, in addition the theme was made by me...)
Now i switched back to the default windows theme. I will write again if i get freezes like this.

It seems that disabling the paging file was a stupid idea, and it made process freezes into a global windows hang.

Thanks zigzag, finally i solved it myself but i couldn't figure out the problem without making sure that the dumping is enabled (where windows reminded me of the paging file)
    Cheers!

I got a freeze again, everything the same expect it would not get to the BSOD so still no dump files.

What is strange about it is everything dies, but cursor doesn't.

edit: seems to be ok again, replaced explorer.exe with backup

The problem doesn't seem to be over yet..
I discovered that it freezes when i use bittorrent and wmp at the same time. After a few mins it gives me a bsod like above, but doesn't create any dump files.

    Please help

Ok it seems that the problem has gone away after cleaning the memory sticks

That is why no dumps has been written at all, when the system froze it lost the control over the ram.
