BSOD - son's computer so activity at time unknown. Fairly frequent.

Hi
Thanks in advance for any help. This has happened quite often, but I think I don't often know as he just restarts. Here is info as per guidance. Also, files attached.

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. 64 bit. Installed by Dell on this new laptop computer.
Dell XPS L502X
System only 3 weeks old.

CPU: i7-2670QM 2.20ghz turbo boost up to 3.1ghz
Memory: 6.144Mb
Graphics card: 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M Graphics Card
HD: 750GB serial ATA 7200rpm

Have replaced free McAfee 1 month trial with ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 10.0.250.000. (Had a BSOD problem when I installed ZA before uninstalling McAfee and had to uninstall McAfee in safe mode. Then thought all resolved.)

Have installed Open Office, Chrome, Firefox. There are some other things installed such as WinRar. My son has installed a couple of things, but as he does not have Admin rights, this is limited.

Thanks

Hello shaggydog,

* Your crash log indicates you STILL have the following malware programs installed.

*Kaspersky
Please remove it
http://support.kaspersky.com/downloa...vremover10.zip

* Remove Zone Alarm
http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe

* We recommend that you install MSE for testing purposes
Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

*Also note your Video driver was involved & needs to be reinstalled with the newest version.
When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver.
In order to do that we recommend using
Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

Windows 7 Ultimate x86

Hi shaggydog and welcome to SF!
the first three crashes at Oct. 27 blame a Zone Alarm driver
Code:
vsdatant.sys Fri May 06 01:31:14 2011 (4DC387A2)
. If this is the conflict with McAfee you were talking about, don't worry 'bout it .
The following four crashes Nov . 04 - Nov. 06 are blamed on your graphics driver
Code:
nvlddmkm.sys Thu Apr 21 21:05:37 2011 (4DB0D461)
If that continues, get the correct driver either here Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
or here:
Dell - Drivers and Downloads
before you replace it, make sure to remove the old graphics driver with this:
Guru3D - Driver Sweeper or with this: Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

The data for the last crash at Nov. 09 is somewhat incomplete/inconclusive.
The crash could have been caused by an attempt to overclock. If so just load the Safe defaults in BIOS

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
        use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
Arg2: 0000000080050033
Arg3: 00000000000406f8

Windows 7 64 bit

Just to say thanks for the advice. There still seems to be some strange spike periodically, like heart beat, but the problem is pretty much resolved. I am not inclined to mess with it now (if it ain't broke...etc). Main thing seemed to completely reinstall the graphic driver (which I had to do twice).
