    Rundll error on startup

    Error says:

    Rundll

There was a problem starting C:\users\newusers\appdata\local\asynccrtppm\quickcommonrpl.dll

the specified module cannot be found.

    ***

tried a few different reg cleanups and so forth, nothing seems to work, googled dll name and couldnt find anything, browesd reg a little bit but was worried about messing with anything.

Thanks if you can help. :)

you can get to the menu and start Startup Repair by using the Windows installation disc or a system repair disc that you created earlier.

Explain more of how disk check didn't work? And unfortunately I am all out of ideas, someone else may have to come by and offer advice.

I just re-read this. Reg cleanups as in registry cleaners? uh oh. Bad idea unless you know more about the registry, and this could be the reason you are having this problem to begin with.

Not sure what else to say about disk check, ran it on startup and when it restarted the error message still popped up.

It started after I did a virus scan, so I think thats what caused it. Unfortunately the only sys restore point I have is when I had the virus so don't know if I want to load that.

    gnarles,

you could try it, might as well if things aren't working. make sure av is updated before full scanning after. this is the first time i've heard of MSE coming up with a false positive (assuming it removed something it shouldn't have)

What's weak is I'm only trying to fix it because I'm trying to sell the comp; it it were just me, I would definitely not be bothered by something like a little pop up message at startup, but I don't want some dude trying to haggle me down fifty bucks for it.

My roomates are tech guys so I'm going to have them take a look at it, and if I can fix it I'll update.

See if the entry is under "startup" tab; if so, uncheck the box - Autoruns for Windows

You should have an HDD Recovery partition on the system which will allow you to reinstall Windows 7.

    Regards. . .
