atikmdag.sys BSOD, page_fault_in_non_paged_area

I have been having random BSOD's ever since I bought this laptop about a year ago.

First is the page_fault_in_non_paged_area BSOD, this one happens randomly no matter what I am doing and makes operating my system impossible, forcing me to system restore to the original drivers that came when shipped. This one happens very frequently after I update the graphics card to the latest ATI drivers.

Second is the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, this BSOD only happens when I'm browsing the internet or downloading, this happens less often and is bareable. This happens when I am running with the old ATI drivers.

I have tried everything I can think of beyond replacing hardware. I have re-installed windows, remounted and swapped the RAM, remounted the gfx card and HDD for what its worth. Also removed old drivers with driver sweeper before installing new ones and ran chkdsk and memtest86+ overnight with no errors.

I am at a lost as to what to do, I suspect its the RAM and ATI software conflicting or maybe bad RAM. Any advice on how to fix would be greatly accepted.

Thanks.

Hi.

In this order,

Remove
avast from your system.

Download, install and use the Microsoft security essentials with windows firewall.

Download and install the new version of Driver Sweeper.

Download the most recent software\driver for your ati AMD Graphics Drivers & Software.

Uninstall
ati software\driver,restart in safe mode, run driver sweeper, choose only AMD-Display and clean, restart in normal mode.

Install the new ati software\driver,restart.

Update
DirectX.

Read very carefully the instructions and run the video-card-test post here the results.

During the gpu stress\test have always in mind the temperatures!!

I have done what you suggested up until the point after I installed the updated ATI driver (8.911), once this was installed my system became impossible to use due to the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA BSOD. This would happen every few minutes no matter what I was doing until it kept happening before I could put my password in at login, at that point I system restored from safe mode.

Just checked, there are no minidump files from during the unstable period after I performed the system restore

Should I still do the gfx card stress test? And any idea what the overall problem is?

Thanks again.

Just tried the GPU stress test, the memtest option was disabled when the app launched and when I started the GPU:OCCT test nothing would show in the monitoring section.

Make sure that you have the DirectX9 runtimes installed before using OCCT

DirectX is up-to-date. I re-installed OCCT to see what it says and this message popped up "Your graphics card doesn't support CUDA. You need GeForce8 or higher. GPU Memtest will be disabled".

Ill try that now. On a side note, after the system restore to the old drivers, I removed avast and replaced it with MSE so far I have no IRQL BSOD's and I've been hammering the internet by opening/closing multiple tabs and flicking through lots of websites.

That 9 times out of 10 would cause a IRQL BSOD with the old drivers, as yet, nothing.
