Darn, that's right. I keep forgetting that. Clean install is the only option in your situation if restore points don't work. I can help you backup any data you do not want to lose if you'd like.

Thanks for trying. Acronis will work just fine. I'm not all up to date on my backup, so I thought I'd see if I can fix it first.

You can get an updated backup through the command prompt onto your external drive. It is pretty easy. You would have to find your system drive as you did doing the chkdsk and your external drive based on what you know is on there using the method you used to find the system drive for the chkdsk. Depending on your system drive that you found to do the chkdsk, the command would be (assuming the system drive is c: and the backup drive is g: )

robocopy /s /r:5 /w:0 /xo /xj c:\users g:\usersBackup

Edit: I'm glad you keep up with your backups, though. Many users in your situation do not have anything backed up and have to start from scratch.

Not sure what the robocopy will do... I keep all of my user files on a separate drive, so I only have to restore my OS system drive. ... looking into the switches now...
