Windows 7: BSOD overnight crashes

BSOD overnight crashes

My system is homebuilt, CPU, motherboard, memory etc. have all been in use for at least 2 years. A few months ago I installed a 60GB SSD as my system drive. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed.
For the most part everything seems to work quite well.
Since installing the SSD I have an occasional issue. Mostly happens overnight, quite random, and was infrequent. In the past week this has now happened several times.
The PC is left on all the time, on occasional mornings it appears to have rebooted. I find the initial screen that has failed to load. It has not got past the final screen and is clearly looking for an OS. The solution is simple. I reboot into the BIOS, open ‘hard drive priority’, this always then shows my ‘c’ drive as being the bottom of the list. I put it back to the top and reboot. End of problem.. until the next time of course. It doesn’t happen after any other deliberate reboot.
The computer reports a BSOD. I occasionally get one of these when I am playing around with TV drivers.
MY PC setup leans heavily toward Media Centre usage. This particular PC acts as storage and slave to a laptop. I have 4 hard drives fitted 2 x 2TB 1x 500 GB and the 60GB SSD. I use Microsoft essential security, and Windows firewall. Updates are automatic. Although fitted with TV tuners they are unused.
Hope I have uploaded attachemenst as I'm supposed to. PS. The 'dirty disk' has nothing to do with the issue, that's a recent issue.

Windows 7 Ultimate x86

Hi Peter88,
9 of your 11 crashes are F4's
Since they're mostlyl occur over night as you say, I wonder if it might be caused by a screen saver filling up/overflowing the stack.
So if you have a screen saver enabled on that machine, disable it (at least for test purposes). Same goes for the oodefrag. (IMHO there is no need in W7 for a 3rd party defragger)

To counteract the changing of the boot order set the C in BIOS/Boot order as first and all others as not present/none.

Others than that we can only follow the usual route and eliminate possible sources
Since there is a chance that the corruption could be caused by flawed RAM sticks please follow these instructions

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

and post back with your findings

Windows 7

Was unaware of your reply.. hence my slow responce.

1. No screensaver, my screen just goes off.
2. I've tried to use the memory tester, so far it hasn't booted. I may well have boot from USB disabled, I'll try to check.
3. I'm not sure how to eliminate the other disks from teh boot sequence?

I may have the culprit.
I've now noticed the my system occasionally freezes, then followsa complete crash. On one occassion I noticed that my C drive was not in the line up. It follows that folliwing such a reboot it would automatically removge the drive from the list?
The drive is NEW, a Samsung SSD 60GB.
If I use the off switch and allow a pause before switching back on... it all starts up fine.

Is my hard drive faulty? Although it has little reason, could it be overheating? But no moving parts... how could that be?

Windows 7 Ultimate x86

The exact way of eliminating drives from the boot selection depends on maker and version of your BIOS. But basically it's just the wording that differs: in BIOS you go to the boot section (not the hard drive section!)and set all unwanted drives to none, n/a or whatever applies to your version.
As for a thermal problem you're right no moving parts at a first glance, but you make a clerical mistake here (I think that's what they call it ) heat/temperature is defined by movement of molecules and there are plenty of those in your SSD That's why there are RAM Modules with heat spreaders.
Besides your CPU has no moving parts either and won't survive without adequate cooling
Having said that, I'm no expert when it comes to SSDs but as a general approach, just to find out if that's the culprit try to supply additional cooling to your drive/computer.
As a temporary solution for test purposes you could remove a side from the computer housing and point a room fan into the case. Or perhaps bundle the wires inside your case to promote air circulation.

BSOD after I left it on overnight, need help!
I was downloading some stuff and I left it overnight. In the morning, I went to turn it off and go to school. It worked fine in the morning as well, I even surfed the web bit.
