Windows 7: BSOD while working in 3DS Max, error code 0x1000007E

BSOD while working in 3DS Max, error code 0x1000007E

My system keeps crashing sort of randomly while I'm working in 3DS Max (32-bit) . I re-installed the video drivers and double checked that I'm using the latest version recommended by the manufacturer.

I'm including the dump files and system report. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Below I've pasted the system information and last crash report from WhoCrashed crash reporter.

System was completely re-installed with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit retail last July and has only seen infrequent use since. I almost solely use it for 3DS Max. Originally the system shipped with WinXP and it is going on four years old. It's an Alienware laptop Area-51 M9750.

Thanks.

Gertjan

Hi GJHouben and welcome to SF!
All your crashes blame the same processes and are virtually identical. To eliminate the small chance of a corrupted system file I'd like you to run this (up to 3 times until no damaged files are found anymore):

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If that approach doesn't bring any improvement follow this tut to flush out the real culprit:

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

This will crash the computer and thus generate more crash data which hopefully identifies the cause for the ACPI.sys crashes. So run the verifier for at least 24 hrs and upload a new jcgriff2 report.

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffff88000f1af2f, The address that the exception occurred at
Arg3: fffff880031c0a48, Exception Record Address
Arg4: fffff880031c02a0, Context Record Address

Hi SledgeDG,

thank you for your advise. I ran the sfc /scannow procces multiple times like you sugested.
All scan came back without errors.

Moving on to the Driver Verifier part and will get to the forum with the results when that is done.

Thanks!

Happy Holidays.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:
Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:
Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.
