Hi Pebbly,

Thanks for the suggestion - I just installed the chipset drivers. I will report back if there is another BOD (they usually start happening with more frequency in the afternoon and evening after the computer has been on for several hours).

Thanks again to everyone that has helped with my problem - it is much appreciated.

Cydoniax, If it only happens when the PC has been on for awhile it may be down to heat or a faulty solder joint on the mobo so maybe worth checking those options out also

Just to keep me on my toes, it sometimes reboots first thing in the morning, but more often in the afternoon/night. Last night it rebooted, was up for one minute, rebooted again. The laptop has a mind of its own.

I hesistate to ask what fixing a faulty solder joint would entail...

That didn't take long - yet another BOD and reboot. Computer was on hibernate for most of the morning so it never had a chance to really heat up.

Any other thoughts?

cydoniax, I'm running out of ideas now , one more thing to try is the memory modules (if you have more than 1 installed) remove one first run it for a little while see if it bsods swap for the one you removed and test again to eliminate bad memory

Oh boy - sorry that is beyond my knowledge. I'm not sure how to do that or what a memory module even is

So you don't think a new install of Win 7 would help?

Thanks!

Hi cydoniax, A new install may help if it is a software fault ,But if it is a hardware fault the problem will still remain . You have nothing to lose by performing a new install so give it a go girl report back to us

I'll try it today or tomorrow if the computer can remain on long enough to do it which is my worry (I'm afraid it'll shut down in the middle of the install).

Santa needs to bring me a new computer!
