Windows 7: Window 7 64bit freezes during startup, but not every time

Window 7 64bit freezes during every other startup

guys, need some advice. I have a PC running the following:

Core i7 2600K,
12Gb DDR3 1600 Ram
Intel DH67CL motherboard.
LG SATA DVD-ROM
ATI 4870 GPU
500Gb Sata boot HDD
SiL raid array with two 1Tb SATA drives (not boot HDD)
two other SATA HDD's

When I do a start, almost every first start of the day gets as far as the windows 7 start screen swirly thingy and finally the pulsing Windows logo, then freezes. Pressing the reset button or holding the power on button then restarts fine (most times - occasionally I have to do it a third time). I've tried the windows repair screen that tells me nothing is wrong, and if it freezes only a repower gets it back, there are no error codes or anything

**EDIT**
Forgot to mention that this issue seemed to start happening after Windows did an update a couple of weeks ago
**END OF EDIT**

Is there anything I can do to determine at what point it freezes so that I can try and do some diagnostics?

Les

Check in event viewer

To check for freezing/crashing you need to check several things.

Event viewer.
Quote:
Type eventvwr in search and go to the windows log>application tab.
Look for errors. Errors have red in the left hand column.

Look for errors that say app hang, or app crash, or anything related to the problem.
When you find them either take a screenshot of them and upload them to us, or note the event ID and source codes and look them up in google. If you cant find them in google tell us what they are.

I started up the pc, which true to form locked up; I restarted it ok, then did the eventvwr thing, and this is the result. For the log in this afternoon, there were no errors, in fact according to the log the last errors were back in november

the screenshot is attached

Is there any way that the start sequence can be logged to see which bit it hangs up at? If it is the same process doing it over and over, maybe I can try and identify a component
