BSOD. Blinking Cursor w/out continued boot-up. F8/F9 won't respond I use an Asus Bamboo U43 series running Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I was using it as usual and what I thought was a normal update occurred. When computer went into a typical update restart, upon reboot a black screen with a blinking cursor appeared (normal for start-up I know) but then the cursor dropped down a few lines as a cursor would do if you hit enter a few times, and that is it. The computer will not continue to the windows start-up screen. Pressing F8 or F9 during reboot does not respond. I can us ESC or F2 options and that is it. Any idea on a solution to the issue would be Highly appreciated! Also I have no recovery disc. | My System Specs |

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests (located at this link: Hardware Diags ). They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future: | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built (x64), Lenovo x61s Tablet, Samsung Netbook OS Win7 x64 + x86 CPU Intel i7 920, other Intel chips, and the Atom in the netbook Motherboard Asus P6T Deluxe Memory 12 gB; 4 gB Lenovo; 1 gB Samsung netbook Graphics Card ATI 4870 Sound Card Yes, I have one of these Monitor(s) Displays 32" Sharp Aquos TV Screen Resolution 800x600 - I have vision issues Keyboard Microsoft Natural Mouse Logitech Trackman PSU 1000 watt (can't recall the brand) Case Antec 300 Cooling Big honking cooler that was rated highly at Toms Hardware Hard Drives 4 - 150 gB Velociraptors in RAID 5

Thank you. I am now running the Seagate Seatools HD diagnostics. Test seems like it will take a bit and I will post results. I am not too tech savvy when it comes to computers. Do you mean you want to burn an ISO of Windows 7 recovery disks and want to do it on a Vista system?
Any CD/DVD program that's capable of burning ISO's will do it on a Vista system.

I guess, I was reading a post about creating a universal system repair disc, but then read that you need a valid license key, which I can't get to without being able to boot my system. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Asus Bamboo U43 series OS Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64 bit CPU Intel® Core™ i5 Processor 450M : 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost up Motherboard Mobile Intel® HM55 Express Chipset Memory 4G DDR3 Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® G 310M, with 1GB DDR3 & Intel GMA HD (Suppo Sound Card Built-in speaker and microphone SRS Premium Sound Monitor(s) Displays 14" 16:9 HD (1366x768) LED backlight Hard Drives 2.5" 9.5mm SATA

There should be a license key on the bottom of the system - all OEM's are required to put that label on their systems.
A system repair disk doesn't require a license key, but a reinstallation disk does.

This link Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc - Create was stating that I could try to create a universal windows 7 system repair disc. I am running the Seagate HD diagnostic right now. I was just trying to research some options that I could take to try and get my computer working again if this test does not really tell me anything. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Asus Bamboo U43 series OS Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64 bit CPU Intel® Core™ i5 Processor 450M : 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost up Motherboard Mobile Intel® HM55 Express Chipset Memory 4G DDR3 Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® G 310M, with 1GB DDR3 & Intel GMA HD (Suppo Sound Card Built-in speaker and microphone SRS Premium Sound Monitor(s) Displays 14" 16:9 HD (1366x768) LED backlight Hard Drives 2.5" 9.5mm SATA

Okay, well long and short HD test passed. So I am assuming that the hard drive is fine. This is an installation disk, so you will need a product key for that.
Or you can just order a set of recovery disks from Asus: Order Recovery Discs (USA) | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built (x64), Lenovo x61s Tablet, Samsung Netbook OS Win7 x64 + x86 CPU Intel i7 920, other Intel chips, and the Atom in the netbook Motherboard Asus P6T Deluxe Memory 12 gB; 4 gB Lenovo; 1 gB Samsung netbook Graphics Card ATI 4870 Sound Card Yes, I have one of these Monitor(s) Displays 32" Sharp Aquos TV Screen Resolution 800x600 - I have vision issues Keyboard Microsoft Natural Mouse Logitech Trackman PSU 1000 watt (can't recall the brand) Case Antec 300 Cooling Big honking cooler that was rated highly at Toms Hardware Hard Drives 4 - 150 gB Velociraptors in RAID 5
