BSOD on startup & Windows 7 won't boot from disk.

Hi!

My home pc is currently running windows xp, it was turned off without shutting down and has since shown a bsod when it is starting up. This occurs in safe mode aswell as regular startup. I was advised to try repairing using my xp disk, or reinstalling the os

I cannot find my XP disk but I do have a new retail copy of 7 home premium 64 bit. I was hoping I could fix the problem with that. I have changed the boot priority in BIOS to the DVD drive but it doesn't load, the disk spins up for a few seconds before spinning back down. This repeats for approx 30 seconds before giving up and booting the hard drive.

I'm at a complete loss so any help or advice would be great!
Thanks.

You cant use a win 7 dvd to "repair" an XP install.

You have to either download an XP image, or if you have a valid key for win 7 install that.

Thanks for the reply!

I do have a valid product key for Windows 7 However my pc won't boot the disk at all, might be a problem with my DVD drive.

Coukl be the drive. Does it read other dvds?

Have you set the dvd drive to be the first device in BIOS?

I don't have any other software DVDs on hand (recently moved house), a movie DVD spins up to full speed in the drive though, something my Windows 7 disk doesn't do.
The DVD drive is the first device in BIOS.
