    Freezing; How do i repair?

    after no problems for 6 months, past few days i get freezing and failure to boot-up completely; tried last known good config; had just run scans with rkill/malwarebytes/superantispysware and they were clean except for adware,which i iremoved. no new hardware. acer aspire 3950; avast free antivirus; zonealarm free version. want to switch to norton 360. won't enter sleep mode; tried to run diagnoxtic and have attached log as zip. any ideas? thanks! pdoyle

    Event Viewer log files show bad controller/bad hard drive(s)
    Please run Seatools diagnostics on all drives using this link: HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.

    seagate tools report

    hiJohn,
    the same pc was able to download and create ISO disc of seagate tools last night;
    seagate only recognized the internal hdd, not the eGo external hdd.
    ran the long version test; 3 hrs later it reports the internal hdd "passed".
    can't locate log files.
    rebooting after the testing; fails.
    now all i get is a light black screen of death and clicking noise.
    tried to use recovery disc; repair fn;
    it reported successful repair of the "Partition Table is corrupt on internal hdd".
    tried that twice.
    still won't boot up.
    tried to load drivers but don't know which to load.
    acer erecovery mgmt disc fails to return OS to factory defaults.
    i have recovery discs i made months ago;'
    i have a system image from december.
    but i don't want to lose all my data.
    if i use system image restore, will i lose data?
    this is a refurb from cheetah/amazon july 2011.
    this is the third pc they've given me; first two had problems immediately.
    i'd like to get a replacement or money back but outside of the 90 day warranty.
    i'm still going to try.
    never had such problem before.
    if i reload the OS, i could run into same problem again, correct?
    i've been using antivirus , firewall, don't surf nasty sites...no high risk use of this pc.
    thanks

    can a bricked hdd still pass seagate tests?

    John can a bricked hdd still pass seagate tests?
    clicking sound seems classic for hdd needing replacement; is that true?
    i've got recovery discs made from the Acer recovery mgmt software that was OEM but i don't have a Microsoft Windows 7 OS install disk.
    do you think i can replace the hdd and reload operating system with what i have?
    thanks pdoyle

    Tests are software constructs that are used to interpret results from sensors. This isn't the same thing as seeing/hearing something breaking.

    Also, it depends on how bad the hard drive is. Try running other hard drive tests (but be aware that each disk access reduces the chance of successfully recovering your data.

    I would pull out the old hard drive, and use the Acer disks on another hard drive to see if the system functions properly that way.
