BSOD 0x00000074 cant start windows

Started up my computer this morning to find that it blue screens on the windows start up logo. I didnt change anything in the BIOS or mess with anything in the system at all that would make it do this. It also blue screens when i try and go into safe mode. I tried start up repair, system restore, system image recovery, last known good start up..... every option available to me but to nothing works. I have tons of data on this computer so a clean reinstall is not an option. Ive been looking all over the web using my other computer to try and find an answer but cant find anything that works.
I get this error on start up
"STOP 0x00000074 BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO"

System restore wont work at all and that is always my go to option, it keeps showing "System restore failed while mounting the registry form the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during system restore. (0x800x70020)"

Any suggestions or advice are greatly appreciated

Unfortunately, that error is a big vague. A few things to try. Get into the System Recovery Options again as an administrative user and run Startup Repair three times and see if you are able to boot.

If startup repair does not resolve the boot issues, start the command prompt through System Recovery Options as an administrative user and do the following steps.
  1. chkdsk /r c:
  2. chkdsk /r d:
  3. chkdsk /r e:

I have updated some of the steps since I gave you those instructions. The following should have been appended to the end:

For any drives that do not give the message:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
run disk check again as above. In other words, if it says:
Windows has made corrections to the file system
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

How much Ram do you have?

Quote:
This issue may occur if one or more of the random access memory (RAM) modules that are installed in your computer is damaged or if the RAM configuration is incompatible.
Quote:
To troubleshoot and resolve this issue, remove the memory modules that are installed in your computer, but leave enough RAM to start your computer and run Windows, and then restart your computer.

Bryon, can you post the source of that information so the OP knows where it comes from?

Bug Check 0x74: BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO shows the error to be registry related. One of our top crash experts usasma suggests that if last known good configuration, system restore, and a disk check do not resolve the problem, the registry is likely corrupted to the point of needing a clean re-install or factory system image recovery of Windows 7.

See 0x00000074 BSOD Index for more information regarding what usasma recommends.

In that event, I can help the Ghosted back up the important data that there is currently fear of losing prior to doing the clean install or factory system image recovery of the system.

I never saw a message that said 'windows has made a correction to the file system" Ill run them again after work and double check now that i know what to look for. As far as the ram goes I have two 2 GB rams, so should i just remove each one at different times? And if there is at all a way i can back up everything that is on my hard drive without being able to log into the computer i will gladly do that and then just wipe it clean.
