Help with Windows 7 not booting up a letter "J"

I've seen this happen when someone has messed around with GRUB and similar. The MBR on the system disk has been messed up. With XP it was easy enough to fix by copying a default MBR to the system disk.

I'd bet Gregrocker has seen this and knows how to deal with it with 7. It's been a while since someone's handed me a computer to fix like this, and they were all XP machines.

@karl: Well, I had posted on this thread as the issue I'm facing is more or less identical to that faced by Verick - Win7 not booting up and Letter J being displayed (as a result of using WinToFlash).

If you feel my issue is different from the core issue - apologies! Please confirm if you want me to move to a new thread.

@sibbil: I tried to reinstall Win 7 via custom install from a DVD. It displays my harddisk as a single partition "Disk 0 Partition 1" although I had partitioned it into 5 partitions.

When I tried to get into the Repair Windows option it fails to recognize the existing Windows installation.

I would start over with a new ISO and use the MS tool to burn to DVD or write to flash stick. Everything you need is here: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

If it fails please post back the exact error message and at what step in Clean Install Windows 7.

Try wiping the HD using Diskpart Clean Command from the installer, accessing DISKPART At PC Startup
