I found this thread while I was doing research on the K53E recovery disk. I am having almost the same problem as crasher59. My hard drive failed a few weeks ago and I am trying to reinstall everything from the recovery disk that I made when I got the computer back in Jan. this year. It will go all the way to disk 6 (which is the last disk in the recovery set) and when it hits 44% complete it just stops. I call the Tech support for Asus and the person told me I needed the boot partition recovery disk. Does anyone one know if this is true or not? If i needed a boot partition recovery disk why would my recovery disk install everything up to disk 6?

That doesn't seem right. When you created the recovery discs, did the software say anything about a boot partition recovery disc?

Also, since you got through nearly all six discs, I wonder if your recovery partition was created. Have you tried the steps to recover using the recovery partition? Press F9 when the system first turns on and shows the ASUS logo. You may have to tap it three or four times for it to register. See if You can get into the recovery options off the recovery partition.

I know for a fact that the recovery partition is there only because I installed 7 professional on the laptop which brought up the 3 partitions that Asus original had. (By the way professional crashed on me after windows update happened was not thrilled). As for the F9 key does not work. The only ones that I can get to sork are the esc, F2, and F8. A friend of mine said that if I put the home premuim image on than use thde recovery disk it should work? Does that sound right?

Not sure what you mean by "put the [Home Premium] image on" so it is difficult to know if that would work. I would say that any ideas are worth trying out, though. Sounds like you are not getting good support from ASUS at the moment, so all options are good options. Might be worth calling ASUS again at some point, as well. Sometimes different tech support people will give different advice and one will provide a solution where another did not.

The computer came installed with 7 home premium on it. I have two other laptops at home which also contain 7 home premium. I tried professional with the legit product key and it crashed, so I was thinking if I took an ISO image of one of the other laptops 7 home premiumOS and installed it on the ASUS laptop register it with its product key and then try and pull the information off the recovery discs ( so that I don't have to try and search for the drivers again) that it might work. Or at least I am hoping it will work correctly this time.

A VAIO recovery DVD cannot be used for any system other than the system it was designed for. It will not usually work even on another VAIO laptop that is the same model.

See Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 if you are interested in doing a fresh install without the ASUS bloatware added.
