Thanks, I took a look at the thread. Looks like you have been on quite a ride. Hopefully the non-genuine problem is not related to your hard disk problems. Have you run a disk check with Automatically fix file system errors checked to see if you have errors again? Remember, for any drives that do not give the message:
"Windows has checked the file system and found no problems"
run disk check again. In other words, if it says:
"Windows has made corrections to the file system"
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

Looks like you have been on quite a ride
    yup i have lol
i think it might have been hdd related not sure anyways after i shutdown my pc i ran disk check with both boxs checked & got tons of errors

1st something along the lines of recovering file indexed
    2nd deleting corrupt attributes
    3rd recovering orphaned file
4th replacing invalid security id with default security id (did this i think to every file)
5th inserting data attributes into file
5th windows replaced bad clusters (there was 6 of them among them was my AV and pagefile)
correcting errors in the master file table MFT mirror & then after all that & a lil more it said restarting windows
after a min. of waiting i went up stairs it rebooted and didnt want to load windows just a black screen no water mark nothing
since it didn't want to load windows i backed everything off my 2nd hdd from my old pc installed xp on it put it in the new pc which is the one with the hdd that's failing and had to fool around with it for a min. to get it to recognize it then had to get it to recognize my dvd drive as i only got 1 ide slot on my pc mobo but finally im back but with xp till i get a new hdd that has more room for 7 & i was hearing a sound like it was trying to load i thought it was maybe my cpu but no it was the hdd i dont hear it anymore now that im using a different hdd so im thinking all might be well
now i gotta hook the failing hdd up & boot from this hdd and then back up the data that is still there

Yeah, I was worried the drive might be failing. That does not sound good at all for that drive. Hope you can get the data backed up. Best wishes!

i got the drive up and running as the 2nd hdd
and im still not getting the sound of it trying to load
im backing up the data right now off of it then after i do that i going try to format using a different file system 2 or 3xs
and scan the disk as well 2 or 3xs & maybe just maybe i can use it as a 2nd hdd maybe

Backup the data first. Then run the diagnostic tools for the drive. If it is your Western Digital drive, use WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD Caviar Blue / SE / SE16 (SATA II) if it is a Seagate drive, use SeaTools. Use the DOS version if the Windows version will not complete.

im not booting my WD drive no longer

ok ran check disk again got these errors
deleted an indexed entry from $SII
cleaning up all unused indexed entries from index $SII of file 9
cleaning up all unused indexed entries from index $SDH of file 9
cleaning up all unused security descriptors
fixing mirror copy of the sec. descriptor data stream
replacing usn journal file record segment
then something about MFT couldn't read it because it booted xp to quick

now when i run check disk the report don't appear it runs in xp
you dont think changing the file system to fat or whatever then putting it back to ntfs wouldnt do to much as of fixing errors in the file system

Probably not. I am concerned that you are getting errors this frequently. I still recommend running the diagnostic utilities from the drive's manufacturer.

    Probably not
but he wouldn't do no harm to go in the drive & delete everything would it?

That would indicate your hard drive is failing and is not worth trying to salvage. Is it still under warranty?
