BSOD from nowhere and cannot reboot

My notebook started crashing two days ago. When I start up there is a black screen with white prompt text top left corner saying something about wrong boot disc (I don't have the exact message).
Managed to restart by disconnecting everything and restart after an hour. The machine did some of its own checks, one of which said "partition table is corrupt on disk". Since initial crash it keeps doing it on more frequent occasions- I use the same method or sometimes get the option to start in safe mode screen.
I have not amended my system in any way recently. When I start now, "everything" seems to work although I have a little blue activity circle appearing often, and working a long time, when I request different programmes/pages.

I am non technical and desperate to resolve this issue.

There are no dump files within the crash report. If you use any disk cleaning programs, they can delete the dump files during cleaning (CCleaner, Windows Disk Clean, etc.), so please refrain from using them after crashes.

It sounds like your hard disk may be failing. Use the diagnostic tools from the manufacturer of the hard drive. You can find the manufacturer through Windows or through your BIOS. Various manufacturer diagnostic tools are listed in the HD Diagnostic page part 2., as is the method for finding the manufacturer through Windows in part 1.
