Pc freeze after 1minute/sometimes startup

OK built a phenom x6 105tt , 8gb mem for a friend a few weeks ago.

Installed windows, software, and games, runs perfect.

2 weeks later, friend comes back to me with pc and says it is freezing after about a minute on start up... I tested it myself and this was to be correct. I bootted the pc into safe mode and managed to keep it running. After failing to spot the problem i formatted the pc. As i formatted the pc the computer crashed a during the splash screen, and sometimes jsut before just selecting hard drive to format.

I swapped the memory, then changed the psu. I then changed the cpu to a athlon x3 core and it ran perfect! not a problem....

So how can the cpu suddenly generate this problem after running fine for over two weeks. I've put the 6core back in and i have tried eliminating certain processes , its runs in basic graphics and no audio mode. however now i am trying to enable them in msconfig they wont start back up after reboot?

event viewier... I also can't get back into that now since i disabled services.. the only information i can remember was something to with event id 150* and it had the word filter. Sorry I cant be more specific I really can't remember.

Surely if the cpu was faulty it woudl have been faulty from the start? I have also flashed bios to latest version.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any chance of electrostatic discharge with the CPU while handling it to put it in the system?

You may find Avoid Static Damage to Your PC | PCWorld interesting further reading as to why computer problems can occur. It basically says that ~400 Volts of electrostatic discharge (ESD) can ruin transistors on a component, but you will not feel the discharge until it reaches ~1400-3500 Volts (that link says 3500-4000 Volts, but it varies based on the climate and how dry it is). When transistors receive a shock that we cannot feel, components can work for a while, and then slowly fail over time until symptoms become noticeable. That is one of the many reasons why so many users end up on these forums wondering why their systems are suddenly not working.

So for future reference, make sure you practice good electrostatic discharge (ESD) habbits and keep yourself grounded when touching PC components.

For ESD Safety, follow these steps:
  1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
  2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
  3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
  4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

I am not saying it was ESD, just that it is a possibility. It may have also been a power surge, bad CPU to begin with, etc. Do you have another motherboard you could test the CPU in? What about a shop you could take it to and ask them to test it in a board they have available?

conclusion of thread, it was a faulty processor as first thought.

It seems that when the graphics features are activated it forces the cpu to spaz out and freeze.

Cant understand how i made perfect installation and ran fine for 2 weeks to then, not even being able to install windows from fresh boot...

pc's ey...

Sorry to hear the CPU is toast. Since it is new, you should be able to RMA it.
