No problem, I don't mind. Good to backup step by step. Copying from the old hard disk will not damage the new disk, so check disk is not necessary. To put your mind at ease, you can run Disk Check on the new drive using just the box "Automatically fix file system errors" to see if it fixes any corrupted data, but I do not think both boxes are necessary. It wouldn't hurt to run with both boxes if you really are that worried about it, but I really do not think that is a necessary step for the new drive. The full format should resolve any bad sectors on the new drive.

If you have a choice, go with the black. Green is slower and does not have as good reviews.

I've had good experiences with Seagate. I have an Hitachi that has done well, too.

I have a Seagate barracuda myself. 1.5 TB drive that has lasted over three years now. I also have a 500 GB Hitachi drive that has lasted the same amount of time.
