You are welcome to go that route. It would clear up any software related problems, i.e. Windows and drivers.

Make sure to backup all important data first.

Any number of things. What I recommend is creating system images periodically (I make one once a week) of when the system is running well. That way, if something goes wrong, you can revert back to the system image.

If you need any help with getting those running and testing them out, start a thread in Backup and Restore - Windows 7 Forums

Can you specify who made the Sound Recorder you had installed originally? I see a lot of free software and paid software that calls itself Sound Recorder when I Google.

Ah, I thought it was a third party program you were using. Did not realize you were having a problem with one of the Windows applications. Are you still having problems?
    • Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations.
