Windows 7: 7100 Startup BSOD (even in safe mode)

7100 Startup BSOD (even in safe mode)

Greetings all!

The issue I have seems to have become quite complex and became progressively worse over a short period of time.

Everything was fine and dandy until I restarted my PC. The first couple of times it made it to the 7 welcome screen where I could type in my credentials. When I hit enter it would freeze.

So, I restarted it. This happened a couple of times until it started to BSOD after the black loading screen with the sexy glowing Windows icon. The first couple of times it did that I could make it into safe mode.

I looked around a bit in SM but everything seemed fine so I restarted again, same problem. So I installed an ran a registry cleaner in safe mode, restarted, and now I get the BSOD after the loading screen every time, no matter which start mode I choose.

I've tried the startup recovery tool but all options seem to fail. I can't try system restore because now, the restore points I have available are on volume C and it appears as though the windows install has magically moved to volume d, both partitions on the same physical drive.

I've fixed this kind of thing in XP a number of times but am at a loss here

Error codes are
0x0000000000000003

and any four of
0xFFFFFA8008859910
0xFFFFFA8008859BFC
0xFFFFFA80088A7B30
0xFFFFFA80088A7E10
0xFFFFF80002FCC670
0xFFFFF80002FC6670

and probably others, dpending on which startup method I choose.

If anyone can figure this out so I can avoid nuking the whole install, I'll buy you three beers

Cheers!

can you fill out your system specs?
and if at all possible upload the dumpfile?
is this 32 or 64 bit?

Okay done, dump file is attached as a zip since I couldn't find an appropriate way to read it.

Cheers!

Code:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an

caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000478, memory referenced
Arg2: 0000000000000002, IRQL
Arg3: 0000000000000001, bitfield :
	bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: fffff80002af2b45, address which referenced memory
during this time have you updated any drivers ?
if you have not and it has gotten worse then it might be hardware related (overheating among others)...
it might also be a some sort of malware (rootkit maybe?)..

if possible use easy transfer to backup your data (if you can) and clean install windows and see if the problems goes away....
if not it might just be hardware related (something so early, it might just be the HDD)...
also have you tried startup repair and does that give you a issue (the BSOD)?

edit: im logging off and if you have replied, i will reply back as soon as possible...

hello! Yes I've tried startup repair numerous times but to no avail. No new drivers. It may have installed some automatic updates but I'm not sure. I think I can safely say I've tried just about everything to salvage the install, so will now cut my losses and nuke it

I'm loathed to reinstall 7100 though and am trying to track down a reliable source for 7600. Any suggestions?

Also I assume I'd need to get a new key no?

Thanks so much for your time

The dump file is from May 12, 2009. Is this the only one on the system? Is your system clock set to the correct date/time?

The memory dump blames bthport.sys - which is a Microsoft Bluetooth driver. There were known issues with this in Vista ( A Bluetooth device may no longer work correctly when you wake a Windows Vista-based computer from sleep ).
I would suggest uninstalling the Microsoft Bluetooth software and drivers from your system - then installing freshly downloaded copies. Please follow the advice below on updating Windows 7 drivers.

Also, the drivers for your WACOM tablet are from 2006. So, I'd suggest updating them at the first opportunity.

Get Windows 7 drivers if at all possible. If not, use Windows Vista drivers - and install them in Compatibility Mode for ALL USERS - selecting "Run as Windows Vista" and "Run as adminstrator".

Here's the analysis of the memory dump:

Wndows 7RC 7100 x64

Wow, I never even looked at the date!

However that is the ONLY file in the minidump folder, which is quite sad

Here's an idea - I've made a backup of my hard drive image as it stands now, would it be possible for me to format the HD, reinstall 7RC and then overwrite everything except the boot folder with info from the 'old' install? Hence keeping my programs etc.

If that makes any sense and sounds possible, would anyone have any tips for which folders and files of the new install to keep?

Cheers!

If the date on your system is correct, then I'd attempt to fix this rather than wiping the system out.
If the date on your system isn't correct - then set it to be correct, then check to make sure that it stays that way.

Use this link to set your system to make minidumps: Change dump file location & size to Minidumps - Vox

You can't preserve your programs if you format the hard drive. Each Windows installation has several different security features that make this nearly impossible. You may be able to perform a repair install of Windows 7 - using the Upgrade option from the installation DVD from within Windows. Here's a link to the tutorial: Repair Install I don't see that this will fix your problems tho' - so would advise against it.

bthav bug?

This seems to be caused by bthav.sys, csr bluetooth stereo profile driver. It seems you have version 3.0.0.183. I have 2.0.0.140, and encounter the same issue.

I don't know why, but bthav calls (a function which jumps goes to)
BthEnum!BthEnumInternalIoctl+0x91.

This looks like an call to an undocumented function.

I guess I'll need to break out the kernel debugger and place a breakpoint on the call that's made at bthav+0x1344 (in your case)
