Disk check utility changed file names, now I got problems.

    Not yet


    Not yet, but I am wary of doing that as I had no problems before I ran Disk Check.

    I will try that as a last resort before I wipe and reinstall.

    I would try this:
    Default File Type Associations - Restore

    And do it for every registry file in the zip.

    What is the status of Windows at this time? Were you able to recover the Start Menu, file extensions, libraries, etc.?
