We need the actual crash reports to see if they provide any more useful information.

What were the results of the hardware tests? Can you be more specific than saying you did all the steps? What steps have you done and what were your results?

Did you replace the power supply, as well?

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE Ultra Durable VGA Series GV-R685OC-1GD Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

just bought these two items, i will let you know once they get here after 3-4 days. I have done some more research and a problem could be with the motherboard where ram connects? speccy says all four slots are used and that there is ram there and shows stats in it. i ran mg video memory stress test for 4 more passes, and 0 codes. I am going to run prime95 just now. I have been browsing for the whole day today and no bsod. I have not played a game, it usually only happens when i play a game.

ok so i started prime95 and after like 2 minutes my screen shut off, but my computer was still on.... no power to mouse or keyboard. i was watching my temps motherboard and processor were only at like 39 degrees.. what could be the cause?? no bsod or anything..maybe graphics card related?

now this was with the third option on prime95 * think it said extensive memory testing.

I did a reset and am running again same option and temps are at 51 degrees and its running fine... that was so random?

ok so it has been running for 2 hrs and no problems what so ever... 640k,8k, 720k, 12k, 800k, 20k,896 = all say "passed!"

  1. Possible causes are Memory problems... Viruses... Corrupted hard disk file system... Corrupted System Files... Lack of Windows updates... Drivers...
Thanks to JMH for helping with my understanding of this crash.
  2. Possible causes are Memory problems... Corrupted hard disk file system... Corrupted System Files... Graphics Driver... Drivers...

  • The crash you experienced with Prime95 could be due to the graphics card. It could also be due to the power supply not being enough to support the tests and power the graphics card at the same time. If a PSU does not supply enough power, the symptoms can be rather finicky. I would suggest running the tests a few more times, especially the Memtest86+ and the video memory test for 7+ passes each.

  • Also, viruses can cause crashes like what you experienced with Prime95. Please check for viruses on the machine. I see that you do not have antivirus software installed. Scan for viruses with a full scan using the free version (do not start the trial) of Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download and see the Good and Free system security combination. for better security steps and scanning tools.

  • Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations.

i took out all the ram and reseated it again (did it once before), but this time i put different memory in different slots. I have been trying to cause bsod, but it has not happened today. I have been playing all my games full settings and the things that used to caused bsod i tried to replicate them. It has not happened YET. wish me luck, i hope everything is solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I still have like 10 days of warranty to return, i hope its all solved so i don't have to return it! You have been a great help! was a good learning experience regardless.

I did buy this computer new open box online, so i am guessing during transit, stuff became a little loose or something. Going to play hard for the next 5 days to force a bsod, if nothing happens then i will consider the problem solved.
