Hung up on welcome screen

Hello, two days ago window updates automatically downloaded on my one year old Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium. Now I cannot get passed the welcome screen. There is no way to run a repair disc because I cannot get pass the welcome screen after typing in my password. I can go into safe mode or safe mode command prompt. But then what? The task manager screen just freezes up. The only escape is to unplug the computer and remove the battery and start all over again. Then the same thing keeps happening? Is there any solution to this problem?
I can get to a screen that says Administrator: cmd.exe Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1. 7600]
C:\system32>
Now what?

Do the following:

chkdsk /r c:
chkdsk /r d:
chkdsk /r e:
chkdsk /r f:

.etc until you get the message that the volume could not be opened for direct access. For any drives that do not give the message:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
run chkdsk again as above. In other words, if it says:
Windows has made corrections to the file system
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

I realize you may only have one disk show up in Windows explorer, but you may have more than one disk through recovery options. This is because the system creates a hidden boot partition (which will be C: in recovery), you may have a recovery partition for your PC that is hidden (which will be D: in recovery), and you will have your primary Windows partition (which may be E: in recovery). A custom PC will likely have at least C: and D: to scan.

I have done as you have suggested, but when I type in chkdsk /r c: I get the messages

C:\windows\system32> chckdsk /r d: Cannot open volume for direct access.

C:\windows\system32.chkdsk /r c:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

What should I do once I get to this point?

Does it give you any option to schedule c: the next time Windows starts?

Do you have a friend with Windows 7 64-bit or 32-bit (whichever version you have) that you could create a repair disc with that computer? All that matters is that you get a disc with 32 or 64-bit Windows to match your version. It does not matter if it is Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, etc.

Also, on the Advanced Boot Options screen, is there an option to Repair Your Computer?

The only screen that I can get is in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking or Safe Mode with Command Prompt, I am not sure which one I should be using?
If I go into Safe Mode, I then get a list of several dozen windows drivers etc. then I get a password prompt,
after siging in I get the endless welcome screen, that will never end,
Ctrl Alt Del will give me 5 choices, Locke this computer, Switch user, Log off, Change a password, Start Task Manager,
If I go to the Widows Task Manager page, then I can go to File,, Create new task,
The open box always has C:\WindowsUpdate.log written in blue in it.
If I back space this out and type in chkdsk /r c: after checking the "Create this task with administrative privileges. then click OK,
I then get a black screen that flashes my desktop icons, when I click on the start icon, the icons dissapear for a minute then reappear.
The screen is black with the words safe mode in all four corners and the words Microsoft (R) Windows (R) (Build 7600) at the top of the page.
I did get a repair disc made, but when I insert it, there is no way to get it to run, so nothing happens.
Any ideas?

When I do click on the C:\WindowsUpdate.log then it goes to a screen that says WindowsUpdate - Notepad (Status) Running

Alright, let us know if you can get a repair CD made. That is probably the best option to resolve the issue.

I have repair disc made but it is useless because there is no way to get to a screen that will allow me to run it.
Sometimes I think that Microsoft sends these updates on purpose to freezeup computers so that people will just go out and buy another one.
Is there anyway to block all Windows updates from coming in when I get my next computer?
I am fine without any new updates, I don't need or want them.

The majority of updates are provided to increase security to the system so malicious attackers cannot gain access and compromise your security. They are not designed to crash the computer; in fact, the remaining updates that are not security related are designed to enhance the Windows experience and provide more stability. If you read the descriptions of Windows updates, you will see that this is true.

The Windows repair disc does not require Windows to run. It boots prior to Windows starting. Do you have your BIOS configured properly so that your CD/DVD drive is first in the boot order?

You can block all updates, although it's not something I'd recommend.

Just click Start>All Programs>Windows Updates and reconfigure them in the manner shown below:

Thast said, it may just be coincidence that your computer is having problems after updating it, so it is worth investigating other reasons as to why it is happening.
