I do not believe it would matter. The tutorial for it does not mention any issues in doing so.

I got another BSOD. It doesn't look like it made a minidump for it--there wasn't a new dmp file in %windir%\minidump. Here is what event viewer said:
Error 3/23/2012 3:00:39 PM Application Popup 1060 None
\SystemRoot\SysWow64\Drivers\FileDisk.SYS has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver.
Then:
Critical 3/23/2012 3:00:39 PM Kernel-Power 41 (63)
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Earlier in the day (while I was gone) I noticed the same thing:
Error 3/23/2012 12:13:42 PM Application Popup 1060 None
\SystemRoot\SysWow64\Drivers\FileDisk.SYS has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver.
Followed by the same Windows has rebooted message, and a:
The previous system shutdown at 12:11:28 PM on ‎3/‎23/‎2012 was unexpected.

I also noticed this message during the bootup process, don't know if it means anything:
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
FileDisk

After that reboot, I also noticed this:
{Registry Hive Recovered} Registry hive (file): '\??\C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS' was corrupted and it has been recovered. Some data might have been lost.

Later in the day:
{Registry Hive Recovered} Registry hive (file): '\??\C:\Users\James\ntuser.dat' was corrupted and it has been recovered. Some data might have been lost.

It seems like my computer rebooted almost once an hour during the day with the FileDisk.sys error! What can I do about this? Is the registry failing?

Edit: Seems like it's been doing this (FileDisk.sys in event viewer) for months! However, the crashes seem to be increasing. Any suggestions?

FileDisk Virtual Disk Driver is from Free Software Downloads - iolo technologies

Can you remove it from your system through Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Uninstall a program? It would be a good idea to see if removing it resolves the crashes.

Did you replace the dll file mentioned in my previous post? Did you run sfc /scannow afterward to make sure it is now resolved? You may need to restart between replacing the dll and running sfc /scannow for the change to take effect.

I don't have that program installed. And, yes, I did run sfc after copying the file, and it's still giving that error.

That program is either installed or some remnants of it remain (either on the system itself or in the registry).

Do a search via the command prompt. Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click Command Prompt -> Run as Administrator -> Type the following commands and press Enter after each:
cd ..
cd ..
dir /s FileDisk.sys
->Post a screenshot of the results.

Maybe WinImage is the culprit? Stupid me, looks like I actually installed it some time back, and had it automatically copy to the drivers folder.

Is there a way to uninstall it? Or should I just manually delete the .sys file from \Windows\SysWOW64 and remove the registry entries?

Code:
C:\>dir /s FileDisk.sys
Volume in drive C is Win7HPx64
 Volume Serial Number is ECDE-C696

 Directory of C:\Program Files (x86)\WinImage

I believe it is part of iolo System Mechanic. Do you find that in Uninstall a program?

No, I don't have the iolo software installed.
Filedisk is open source (A 64 bit compiling of filedisk).

Is WinImage what you installed, then? If so, it should be safe to remove. Does that show up in your Uninstall a program list?
