Computer Crashing Randomly After Update

    Computer Crashing Randomly After Update


    -Windows 7 Professional
    -32 Bit SP1
    -Full Clean Install

    Has been installed for approx 3 years. Last week after some updates the computer randomly gets a Blue Screen error and shuts down. Any help would be appreciated. I have attached the files as per requested.

    Memory corruption (probably caused by one of these drivers from 2007)

    How To Find Drivers:
    - search Google for the name of the driver
    - compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
    - visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
    - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
    - - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference
    - - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads




    These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (probably a driver).
    Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.


    * If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
    In other words STOP!!!

    * If you have raid update its Driver.




    Memtest.
    *Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

    *Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

    Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

    Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

    Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

    If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

    RAM - Test with Memtest86+



    Driver verifier

    Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

    So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

    Then, here's the procedure:
    - Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
    - Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
    - Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Special Pool", "Force Pending I/O Requests" and "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
    Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
    - Select "Finish" on the next page.

    Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen.
    Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly.
    The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.
    If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation.

    Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

    If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
    If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

    Thank you for the information. I appreciate the quick response.

    It appears the driver is a Soundmax driver and the other files are for Roxio DE that were pre-installed. I updated the Soundmax driver and downloaded Memtest to run this weekend. The last option I will have to wait on. This is a company computer and I need to make sure I have everything completely backed up before proceeding.

    I can not afford to get locked out if it crashes.

    I will update the info as I go.

    I also received a message that started:

    The instruction at 0x770C6E17 returned memory at 0x002A3868....

    Any idea where this is leading.

    BTW.... It seems to crash while the system is idle and unattended. I leave the computer on at night and the errors are there when I arrive in the AM.

    If you cant afford to get locked out BACKUP first. Both memtest and verifier can lock you out. WE can get you back in if you have another computer to post with.

    If it is a company computer can the IT dept there not help with this issue??

    We're in trouble - I am the IT department.

    I am great with networking and designing, but not so hot at programming. We have 3 other computers so getting back online is no problem.

    I ran Memtest (7 passes) today while working on another computer. 0 errors reported. The computer has not crashed while I have been working on it or during the Memtest.

    Also, Boot is taking much longer then usual.

    I forgot to mention that I had installed windows updates last week, but the same updates keep showing up to be installed. Each time I have installed the updates it tells me I have been successful, yet the same ones keep appearing in the Windows updates.

    Sorry for the information delay. I'm just trying to be thorough.

    The memory seems to be ok. Does it boot slowly into safe mode (F8)?

    Do you know which updates were installed when the problem started (can be viewed in update history)?

    These are the updates that keep repeating.
    The crash problem started around the same time but I am pretty sure it started crashing before the update problem.

    I also tried a System Restore before the updates. Same problem.

    The computer crashed numerous times over the weekend. I have attached the latest error code and the minidup folder.

    Well one of the most recent was Related to DLAIFS_M.SYS Drive Letter Access Component from Sonic Solutions.

    There are 13 drivers for it and they are all from 2007.

    These need to be removed or updated before we can even look for the true cause.

    Should I remove the program? How do I completely remove all of the drivers so there is no trace of them?

    The program I do have installed is Roxio DE. I don't have Sonic.

    I can put other CD burning software on this computer.
