HP Probook 4320s - Frequent crash / freezing randomly

My HP Probook 4320s laptop was purchased in October 2011 - just before I left for an extended volunteering trip in Kenya.

It quickly developed the extremely annoying problem of freezing / crashing. Unfortunately I was in Africa at this point - so just tried to live with it.

Thankfully, my wife has a laptop that we have been using instead, we just haven't been using the HP at all anymore.

I called the company that it was purchased it from, they asked me to do a memory test & hard drive test - they showed no errors.

They then advised me to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit (it was preinstalled when purchased).

I reinstalled it, & downloaded all of the drivers from the web (a painfully slow experience on Kenyan internet...!!).

After installing all of them - it's still happening!

I see there are lots of issues with the blue screen, thankfully I have never had that problem, just the freezing.

Sometimes if left for a couple of minutes it will start to work again, sometimes it needs a reset with the power button.

If I was at home in the UK I would insist that it be swapped by the company purchased from, but being over here that isn't an option!

I would apprciate it so much if someone could offer some advice that would actually lead to the problem being solved.

Thank you very much in advance.

p.s. - I'm not extremely computer literate, so please phrase replies as you would to a 5 year old!!!

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:

    Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
    Expand Custom Views
    Click Administrative Events
    Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
    Upload the .zip file here.

Thanks very much for the help, apologies for the delay, I've not been able to do anything with this for the last few days.

I have follwed the instructions and hopefully the file will be uploaded with this post. If you are able still to help me try and solve this I would be so appreciative.

    Thank you.

    A number of these:
    Code:
    Log Name: HP Software Framework
    Source: CaslSmBios
    Date: 3/23/2012 2:10:55 AM
    Event ID: 5
    Task Category: None
    Level: Error
    Keywords: Classic
    User: N/A
    Computer: Alastair-HP
    Description:
The description for Event ID 5 from source CaslSmBios cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

2012/03/23 11:10:55.294|000017F8|Error |[CaslWmi]CommandPMC::B{hpCasl.enReturnCode(byte[]&)}|Error 0xe_BIOS_INVALID_COMMAND_TYPE from BIOS WMI call PMC/02h while getting PMC Capabilities info
Remove CaslSmBios or re-install it from HP Support

Unfortunately, we did not get the details for the program. The LocaleMetaData folder needs to be included for the details to be included. Can you upload these, as well?

The new steps for administrative logs are:

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:
    1. Click Start Menu
    2. Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
    3. Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
    4. Expand Custom Views
    5. Click Administrative Events
    6. Right click Administrative Events
    7. Save all Events in Custom View As...
    8. Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
    9. When asked, save the display information in English.
    10. Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
    11. Create a new folder by right clicking in a blank area within the folder Errors.evtx is saved in. You could also click New Folder at the top of the directory under the directory path box.
    12. Name the new folder Errors.
    13. Place Errors.evtx and the LocaleMetaData folder into the new Errors folder.
    14. Right click the Errors folder -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
    15. Upload the .zip file here.

Thanks again, but I'm not sure what LocaleMetaData folder is? I've tried searching for it but no success.

I have reinstalled the BIOS update from the HP website as you sugested.

I am ready to post the new Errors folder, but just need confirmation on the LocaleMetaData.

    Thanks

The LocaleMetaData folder should be within the same folder as the .evtx file you saved. Do you see it in that folder?

I recommend that you uninstall the HP software framework and then reinstall it.

Thank you. The crashes can occur when doing anything at all, not just when conected to internet via Everywhere 3G+.

I will uninstall HP Software Framework & try again!

    I'll report back asap.
