Windows 7: Another Win 7 BSOD on Startup Story

Ok, that wasn't so bad except waiting for the system backup to complete. Man that's a slow process that used almost all of my spare drive.

It didn't seem to crash any differently than before and it always takes a hard start to restart it. "Restart" just hangs. Here are the .dmp and all the other files I could find that were related.

Anything else just let me know. Thanks

The crashes do not appear to be Verifier enabled. Double check that Verifier is verifying drivers: Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click Command Prompt -> Run as administrator -> Type the following command followed by the Enter key
verifier /query
-> Post a screenshot

I also just noticed you have TrueCrypt - Free Open-Source On-The-Fly Disk Encryption Software for Windows 7/Vista/XP, Mac OS X and Linux installed and wonder if it might be causing problems...

TrueCrypt was just recently installed be to be sure it wasn't a contributor I uninstalled it before today's exercise and rebooted.
I couldn't tell if verifier.exe was still running so I did a verifier /reset, reboot, then restarted it selecting everything but the MS drivers and a reboot.
I don't see anything different in the PC's behavior. It never crashes while it's running, it is always something to do with hanging up on sleep or shutdown then a restart. A hard shut down and at the start-up error screen, load Windows as normal. NOTE: I didn't get any BSOD today only failed restarts.
I've included the three crash dump files, WER file, and screen shots from verifier /query.
Let me know if you need anything else.

Verifier appears to be running as expected... The crashes are not Verifier Enabled crashes, though... I feel like we will just run in circles at this pace. Recommend disabling Verifier, restarting the computer, and then doing a Repair Install of Windows 7. Let us know if you need help with that.

I went back to my earlier suspicions on the USB 3.0. The last time we uninstalled the USB drivers from Device Manager - rebooted and re-installed them. This time I went into Program Manager and uninstalled the Renesas program. It removed the drivers. I rebooted and ran the system that way for a couple of days. No crash!! I re-installed the older Renesas driver. No crash but the system doesn't recognize the front USB 3.0. Installed the latest driver, the front USB started working but it would hang and crash like before. I disconnected the front USB from the mobo, no more crashes.

I used a pass-through cable and plugged into the rear USB 3.0. Everything works - but - when the machine sleeps it won't recognize the front USB so they are dead until I reboot. This is a large desktop so I don't want to have to get to the rear ports. I'm in and out of the office so the PC sleeping is preferable.

Any thoughts?

Also I'm finding lots of conflicting info. on USB 3.0 cables. Is there a difference between 2.0 & 3.0 cables? they both have 4 pins so I'm not sure. Is there a difference?

Thanks!

I honestly am not a USB 3.0 expert. The technology is after my computer building time. I would suggest asking the hardware experts in Hardware & Devices - Windows 7 Forums by starting a thread there. You can also consult your motherboard manual for help with the wiring.

As to the problem with the front ports, it sounds like you may have a short somewhere. I have seen many cases where front USB ports (either 2.0 or 3.0) had shorts due to case issues or wiring issues, so make sure no metal is contacting the board and the wiring is setup properly. It sounds like you already suspect some wiring problems, so see if the hardware gurus can help with that.

Nice hunting to determine a likely culprit of your crashes, by the way. Best of luck!

Writhziden, I really appreciate Ur patience on this. I'll try the hardware guys. All of the wiring is good and there isn't any damage or anything on the board. I'm really wondering if ASUS has just blown the driver.

Again, Thanks and a Tip of the Hat!!!

You're welcome. Hope you can determine the cause of the front USB ports issue.
