Windows 7: No Wake From Sleep – BlockedI have an issue with the sleep function. T

I'll do it soon and let you know. About the clean install it is just that: 1/2 hour is enough, but install programs, configuration and personalization can take over two weeks. That is why I do all I can to avoid it Until XP I never needed to do clean installs, but OSs and computers problems increase with each new version. They are terribly unstable and the most incredible things happen without any apparent reason. Some things are really strange. One that happens to my PC now, even if not even worth to mention is with the mouse configuration. On Windows mouse properties, Pointer Options tab, there is a case for "Enhance pointer precision". My setting is frequently reverting by itself. Not important, but crazy. What is bad is that similar problems or issues can occur with important settings. Once, the index stopped showing search results for one drive, but if I had it excluded on the index the results appeared, but slowly because it was not indexed. Sorry, just talking, but true. Restore points and images are very good, but only for static PCs. If yours is dynamic, if you keep changing things in it, when you restore it you go far back in the past, unless you save an image every day.

Some people do save system images daily. I do it once a week. I would suggest the same for anyone, even if things change a lot in the course of a week. At least with a weekly system image, you save yourself the time for the clean install and reconfiguring Windows and re-installing ALL programs. You may have to re-install some things, but at least it would cut back significantly on what you need to re-install after reverting to an image.

Well, the re-installation was a bit over three hours, but run smoothly. Afterwards there were several problems, and I could solve them all, but one. I couldn’t install the ATI display driver and Catalytic (CCC). I had the same problem when I first used it for the present installation, but I solved it. Now, I had to test the .NetFramwork files as the other time, repaired one that was corrupt and all that, but this time no way. I kept getting the same error message about the MOM.Implementation. I made lots of searches and read many instruction and forum threads; strangely enough I found many recommendations, but didn’t find anyone saying that his issue had been solved, even if I was lucky to do it last year. The driver partly worked, but could not be controlled and I needed that. Another strange thing was the Shut down button changed to Sleep and I couldn’t reset it. Comodo firewall also got corrupt and the program's own repair install was unable to repair it. Not a big problem because it could be wiped and reinstalled. It happened the same to three other applications, two of them being also from Asus (Cool & Quiet and Probe II). None of them would have been a problem, but the ATI display driver was. Only the OS and programs could get broken because I keep most things away from the OS, even the Start Menu and Firefox profile. I spent over two full days trying to reinstall that driver and had enough .

While I was there, I tested the Bluetooth after remaking the broken connection. This time the files exchange didn’t even open the directory for the mobile on Explorer, though the modem diagnosis was OK.

Your suggestion was good. I have done this before with XP and Vista, nothing of this happened and nothing was broken. Now, I It was very unlucky . I ended up using the disk image I had done before the install repair, and am back to the same pool. Before I buying a new dong blindly I will try it on a small XP partition that I will mount, and I will tell you the result very soon because that was the subject of this thread.

Thanks again.

Sorry to see the repair install did not go smoothly. I have never seen such problems with ATI drivers and CCC. I have done many repair installs on my own system before my most recent clean install, and it also has ATI drivers and CCC. I have seen the antivirus issue during a repair install. That seems to be common with most security software because it becomes intertwined with Windows. In my opinion, the repair install should recommend removing antivirus software before proceeding as well as the AMD install manager.

I guess let us know how things go with the dongle and XP partition...

It didn't work on XP . The cause is probably from that piece of hardware, as you mentioned before. I will buy a new one next week and tell the results here because I do need that thing working. What I really don't understand is that the computer finds the mobile modem, and a phone can even remote control Windows Media Player and Media Center! Why not exchange files and synchronize, too?

I've made other repair installs without any problem before, as mentioned. The anti-virus and other similar issues are not a big problem and can be arranged with a little time, but the ATI driver is. You may have never had it, but if you make a couple of searches about this issue you will find it is more common than it seems to be. There are plenty of articles and sites on its repair, including MS's MSDN, the latest regarding the often necessary net.Framework repair or replacement. This is a page from AMD with instructions, among the many I found on how to do it and links. From what I see, I think the CCC issue is really very common. I had it before, it takes a lot to repair because, but this time nothing of what I tried worked. It is so bad that after trying all that I think it is useless to ask here for help because I will obviously be recommended to do all that I have already done. I have not found a solved case, but this is OK for me now because I replaced the OS disk image.

I did have a similar problem with CCC, but it was due to some bad software I used for system imaging. The developers of that software did not seem to have the imaging down right, so restoring the images left me with broken programs and such.

When you did the repair install, you removed all AMD software by uninstalling the AMD Install Manager before continuing with the repair install, correct? That should have removed CCC.

I used Windows own Backup and Restore for the image, and cleaned the ATI files and CCC with Driver Sweeper. After, when searching to solve the above problem, read somewhat that it deletes too many files... I have also used Driver Cleaner before and found that if after I use Driver Sweeper it finds many more files to delete.

I usually avoid Driver Sweeper and Driver Cleaner. They work well most of the time, but they can occasionally remove files that are necessary for the system to work properly. There was a time when I recommended them as steps on here for removing display card drivers, but one user ended up not being able to start Windows after doing so, and I stopped recommending them since.
